Hello everyone,
My Daughters phone was pretty old and she said it was basically becoming useless how slow it works. So we went to the ATT store and see about getting a new one. She had a iPhone 11 128g which has severed her very well. But the new iPhone 17 was there in White so that is what I got her. The funny thing is they gave us $350 for the iPhone 11 trade in. It was in perfect shape as she always had a case and screen protector on it. Pretty nice score for that kind of money off.
She is tickled pink how fast the new phone is, the volume is a huge difference and the cameras are light years ahead of what was going on in the iPhone 11. Win win.
So as I was there, the salesman said I could get stupid money for my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I told him my phone works perfectly, it's still fast as the day I got it, the battery lasts at least a full day or more and I have plenty of storage not to mention my phone as well has been in cases and screen protectors. But he hit me with $1100 and the new iPhone 17 Pro Max was like $1199. So for $100 bucks, I could upgrade into a brand new phone and away I go. I didn't think that would be a smart move not to take them up on that offer. So I did.
So for my upgrade, not as big of a deal. My new 17 doesn't honestly feel any faster than the 15 did. Everything loaded fast on the 15 as it does on the 17 so with the increase in speed, it's barely noticeable. I haven't done anything that showed me so.
I haven't taken any video or pictures yet, it has this camera button on the side but there is a camera button right on the Home Screen so unless I put another shortcut there , I don't see the camera button a benefit.
The Storage is where I made a change. I got all crazy years ago always wanting the most storage on the phone . My 15 had 512 and I still had like 400 left. So to save like $100 bucks with the upgrade, I went with the 256 and because so much is now stored in iCloud , I don't see any reason to sweat that at all.
So if you need a nee iPhone, now is the time to make the move, your old iPhone will bring in more money than you would expect. Hell $350 for a iPhone 11 is stupid good considering on the market it's worth $55.

And they locked you in for what? 36 months? Free phones are not free, they are subsidized by high price plans. Compare ATT's unlimited plans to something like the Cricket plan. You're paying an extra $350-400 per year over 3 years which is more than the cost of the phone buying directly from Apple with a trade-in.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here.

Agreed billbillw. But, AT&T did give us a couple of good trade-ins the last 2 years. I was paying $45/line unlimited anyway, and with adding my 16Plus and my wife's 17ProMax, our bill is currently $215.03 after fees/taxes/etc., that's for 4 phones. Where I live, AT&T has always been the most reliable carrier; I heard some horror stories about Cricket, TMobile, Optimum, etc. and we've been with AT&T for +/- 25 years. And really, the phones and plans are all write-offs to my business anyway, so it's not that big a deal. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Yeah, my daughter just got a “free” phone that requires her to be on a more expensive plan for 36 months.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

Me, too! They might have to go to work! 😳😂
AND work 2 jobs! OH, the humanity of such..... -
Last time I got a new phone, my plan didn't change and since I've been a Sprint customer since 1996 and subsequently a T-Mobile customer by default now, they let me finance my phone on 0% interest and just tacked it on to my phone bill every month. I even got a credit for early pay off. No trade in necessary.
I have yet to trade in a phone. I still have my Nokia 5110, my BlackBerry Pearl, my HTC Touch Pro II, my Nexus 5, my Pixel 3a and I'd still have my Sanyo VI-2300 if it didn't get ganked at Clancy's 'cause some sleazebag thought it had Katie's number in it and didn't know the battery was only going to last 20 minutes without being on a charger.
You turn in your phone and all they do is resell it either through a refurber or in another country.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I don't know how many of you pay attention but Apple just released a new iPhone DUO. It's actually the first iPhone that got me pumped up. It's $2000 but maybe just maybe it's actually worth the investment.
Hear me out. As a Bussiness owner, I have to do some work in the field. If I'm programming , Calibrating or setting up a Lutron or Camera system, I'm on my Laptop so real-estate isn't an issue. However if I have to work on my iPhone and I always go Pro Max, the screen sucks for some of my software suits, not to mention I'm getting older and eyes are not what they use to be.
So this Duo looks to be a perfect Ip[ad iPhone combo unit, I can carry 1 device and not 2 . I gotta go play with one at an Apple Store and see. I just got the iPhone 17 Pro max days ago and I can upgrade after 1 month if I choose. Maybe ........Dan

2K for a phone? LOL.
No, thanks.

Didn't Samsung do that like 7 years ago? Google did it 3 years ago? Apple is late to the party.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here.

Apple is the best for people that just want their stuff to work. Period.
I started with android because I wanted the ability to tinker with my OS. I was very anti-Apple for a couple of years, then I bought an iPad in the early 00’s and my outlook completely changed. The cross-device compatibility and linking, ease of use and durability are light years ahead of other devices, and that’s why they dominate the market year in and year out. My ONLY gripe with Apple devices is that they do not accept external memory, but even that has been rendered more or less moot by the cloud.
So yea, Apple may not always be first with a new feature, but when they do release it, it will be the best….“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

Early photos show the screen has a noticeable fold line, so I don't think it will necessarily be the "best" but I'm sure they will sell a bunch and maybe some people really need that screen space. It's mostly a gimmick to me.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here.

This is the best folding phone on the market.

Samsung, Apple, Google, none of them can hold a candle to it.
I actually have last year's Razr Ultra for my work phone. It's lightweight, snappy in performance, no screen line at all and despite the slight dip in the screen where the fold is, I can't find a significant flaw in the entire design.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

No prominent crease: Apple used advanced technology to remove the obvious dip found on many other folding phones.

Motorola has made some great hardware through the years, but they burned me twice by failing to offer a promised Android update leaving the phones unsupported with updates after only a year or two. After the last one, I said never again and have been with Samsung since.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here. -
Samsung and Motorola make great phones not denying that. I for one was anti anything Apple until 2020 the Covid year. My laptop died and I had tired of replacing these things every few years. So I jumped ship for an iPad Pro at BB via contactless pickup, weird times. What sold me on Apple is the operating system. Not long after I purchased my first iPhone, been my go to ever since.

I have had my phone for just about a week now and I have a few things to say about it.
1- the battery doesnt' die. Since I picked it up, I have only charged it 3 times. It can last easily 2 full days and if I don't charge it overnight on the 2nd day, I still have 36% battery left. My iPhone 15 Pro max was able to go a full day and a half but I would average 20% or so at that time. So the battery is a stupid upgrade.
2- Now that I have been using it for many different things, it is noticeable faster. It's not light years of day and night stuff just snappy and quicker to load things. The speed of the 15 Pro max was just fine. I'm not thinking this was a need, but it's nice to have.
3- Brightness, the screen is slightly bringer and better. The one issue with the 15 was sunlight. It's still an issue with the 17 but less of one. You can't compete with the sun but at least the 17 I can see it enough to do what I hav to do if I have to be in direct sunlight.
4- it's noticeably heavier. It's not a lot, but the 15 was a heavy phone and this one is slightly heavier. I also have 2 cases for it, one leather and one clear with a kick stand. I like the clear one it's made by Zagg and that case is a bit weighty. When I use that case, I really feel the extra weight in my short pocket. When I run the Leather case , it's a Ottorbox Catus leather, it's not as noticeable. That case it very nice and I like it for going out to diner and weekend stuff. The Zagg case I like for when I'm at work for the extra protection. I also run a Zagg 11x lifetime screen protector.Dan

Apple seems to artificially make their older phones have shorter battery lives. This has been documented by some of the tech people. Battery life is always fantastic...until they release the next generation. I bought my son a 15 Plus last summer. Brand new. When the 15 came out, it had stellar reviews for battery life. My son complains the battery is worse than his 13 Plus. Why? Because Apple deprecated the battery because it is now 3 generations old (with the 18 release) even though its 1.5 years of use. My Galaxy S24+ is now 2.5 years old and I rarely see the battery under 50% in a day's use.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here.

I doubt there’s truth to that particular conspiracy theory. My wife still uses her 12 with no issues, as does my daughter. There is no denying that new batteries last longer, but this is universal. People who game extensively or live on social media clearly deplete the max battery life more quickly. I have a 17, and it possesses many new features to preserve battery life - kind of an odd thing to do if you’re trying to artificially age-out batteries.
By the same token, my brother-in-law is a diehard Samsung guy, and he experiences very rapid (<2year) battery degradation… it just depends on how you use (and charge) your devices…“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

OK, maybe I got it wrong. I checked and what they actually do is slow down the older phones intentionally. They actually had a settlement on that back around 2017.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here.

That’s a bit of a stretch as well. They intentionally slowed performance on old phones with degraded batteries in an attempt to maintain reliability of the device (IPhone 6 & 6s) back in 2016. They also cease to provide updates to aged-out devices, and older devices struggle to run newer applications. That’s understandable - even Samsung typically stops supporting devices after 5-6 years.
The fact that Apple dominates the market naturally creates a lot of haters, and that’s fine. As I stated, I used to be an Apple hater - then I actually tried their products and realized that my hate was misplaced. If you enjoy “tinkering” with your OS, then Android is probably for you. However, if you view your phone (and tablet) as tools that you want to function seamlessly and work together, then Apple is probably for you. Long live the free market:-)“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

Apple dominates? Hardly.

Dell, HP, and Lenovo all probably sell more computers each year by themselves.
BTW, I'm not an Apple hater. I have two AppleTV 4K boxes and my main computer is a Mac Mini. I tried an iPhone back around 2021 and after less than 6 months, I switched back to Android. I don't care if my messages are green.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here.
