No, that was the one. A.I. cannot fathom or understand system synergy.

What it can do, is tell you how to hook things up, what certain functions do, how making an adjustment within the system settings will affect things, etc.

A perfect example would be for someone who doesn't know how to dial in their subs, when there are 32 different settings on the plate amp. It can tell you what each function does. What it can't do is tell you how it will actually sound in your room.

I’ll be interested in how long it takes to fill the order. I have been working with them for more than 6 months to get an order completed. I received the panels after 4 months but 2 were damaged. Now I’m waiting on those 2 to be replaced. Their customer service is terrible and expected ship dates are way off. Good luck.

I have only worked with GIK one time and it was several years ago, but this pretty much reflects my experience. I think it was several months to get two bass traps. One had very light damage on the corner, and I decided to live with it vs waiting several more months. I honestly wonder how much of their backorders are driven by repair/replacements.

And don't forget that if it doesn't work out, you'll likely loose your shirt on the investment.

  • Thanks @billbillw. @treitz3 I reread my original post and will take responsibility for not elaborating well enough.

I was interested in a separate DAC. A.I. knew the existing DAC in my (at that time) Marantz processor and the one in my CD player. I did not want to spend money to make a lateral move or even possibly go backwards in quality.

So I asked for list of external DACs that would exceed the quality of my existing DACs. Turns out, the Denafrips Venus was a winner.

Asking if I should buy a Bose vs Polk speaker isn't even close to what I was trying to convey.

  • Interesting turn of events today. I received the GIK replacements. If they would have packaged the original order like they did this one everything would have been fine.

Here is a perfect example of the depth perception.

The speakers moved back at least 10 feet on the song, "The expert. The band is Yellow.

The only thing that changed was removing the diffraction part of the panel behind my head.

With this recent change, you cannot tell what location the speakers are in. Simply awesome!!!

This is just one example. There are MANY others. Wonderfully, crazy listening!!!

  • Has anyone here tried Real Traps?

I recently treated my room with a bunch of their mini traps, and had a positive experience. The placement advice was great, they're made well.

I can not speak on the shipping however. I picked them up.

I remember your frustration with them. That's sad compared to what they once were. I purchased when they were still very good to deal with. They were very helpful with room recommendations. Our open floor plan main level is over 10,000 square feet not counting doors open into rooms, lower level. I had two setups that caused various issues and they were pretty helpful. Later I went to software (Dayton Audio OmniMic V2) for speaker setup/acoustic treatments.

This all GIK stacked bass tri traps and panels in Guilford of Maine silver papier cancelling most of ESL's rear wave south wall setup was from when the wife worked lots of hours, before she took the living room back...lol I bravely (or stupidly) told her this in mine, she can have the lower-level family room.

Well, I got an update on the panels. They have already shipped! That was much faster than I expected. Looking forward to getting them all installed. I have been enjoying the heck out of what I am already experiencing, with just that one small change.

  • I guess I should have clarified. This is apparently only two of the three panels. Not the complete order. Apparently , there are 2 pieces with the dimensions of 49x25x10 in.

I am assuming that these are the two side panels for the first reflection points. I am guessing that the panel for behind my listening chair will be delivered separately.

  • I got three panels for my ceiling about 3 1/2 years ago now. Had to wait quite a while for the panels themselves, but also ordered their mounting brackets. No indication when ordering that they were on back order. Finally, after waiting another two or three months after the panels arrived, the mounting brackets showed up. No tracking info. ahead of time, no “hey, those brackets will be shipping soon” email. Nothing. Just showed up out of the blue. There’s nothing to them, just powder coated stamped steel, so no good reason for the delay in my mind. Bridget in CS there was no help.

That was my last and likely final order.

    Good luck, Tom.

Well, in this case, GIK Acoustics came through with flying colors. They shipped weeks before the anticipated date. Everything arrived in perfect condition and there were no blemishes or issues at all. That said...

Leave it to Fed-Ex to screw things up. I was off yesterday and delivery was supposed to happen between 10 and 2. At around 3:30, I finally see the Fed-Ex truck come down my street....and drive right on by me. I am like, WTF? He pulled in a driveway down the hill.

Okay, no problem. He will probably swing back by my house after that delivery. Heck no, the bastage turns the other way and drives off. About 10 minutes later, he drives back by and slows down near my house. I am thinking, "cool". I'll walk out to him, and I as I start heading toward his truck, he speeds up and drives off. Again, WTF?

A couple of hours later, the package was right back where it started from that morning. Whatever. They are as bad as the brown ape company. Bunch of idiots. As big as the two packages were? They were most likely the biggest packages he had on the truck!

Anyhoo, they were delivered today and I just installed the new panels about 45 minutes ago.

I am liking very much what I am hearing. The presentation is much more musical and that depth! Man, talk about layers! There are many more subtlties that apparently were masked, as I am hearing things that are very prominent now, that maybe I had heard before (many times not), but they are now a part of the music. Overall, it is much more "musical" than before. When I say musical, it's more of a live performance, rather than a reproductive effort and there are no walls. No speakers, no floor, no ceiling...just an awesome presentation of music!

I have only listened to some Yellow and some Eva Cassidy, and so far, I am VERY impressed with the end result.

All because of a conversation with ChatGPT, some experimenting and my time. I am SO glad I did this! The texture and definition of the bass, mid-bass, and especially the vocals (male or female) are just sublime. The spatial locational cues are so much more definitive, yet at the same time, more air and aura around every single sound you hear. The layering sounds much more natural and not so....definitive within the layering. I guess that's the aura I am talking about. Much more natural and realistic.

Bottom line, everything I have heard so far has been fantastic. Had I put a black sheet in front of the entire system and had I not known what I did with the changes of the panels? I would swear that I replaced the system. With all of the same attributes, but with none of the deficiencies. Although there weren't many deficiencies after removing that deflection panel, this is definitley next level sound. Simply put? It's a performance, not a playback. So very musical...

  • So, as I listen more? It becomes apparent that I need to reajust how the subs/mains interact with the room, given the new parameters.

That should be pretty easy. Still in awe at what this change has made. This is so much fun!!!

  • Fine tuning only. At this point? Nothing drastic. Just simple adjustments to get the system optimum.
