We had some bad storms in central Illinois earlier today. Hoping all is well with @pitdogg2 as his town seemed to get the worst of it.
It was so dark at noon:30 that my dusk-dawn floods came on and cast shadows on the deck like nighttime. Neighbor behind me recorded 1.5 inches of rain, all in about an hour, or less.

Nice digs, man!
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Hot/Humid. Heat Advisories for the next 7 days at least from what I saw on the forecast this AM.See profile for rigs. Nothing else here.

Hot as he8L. 95* and no rain for days.
I'm going to have to put the sprinklers up again.
A huge storm just appeared BUT, I don't know if I get a drop...Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

CARNAGE here! No power, most streets impassable, the streets that are are packed with idiots trying to race past others. My 15 min drive to and from work took an hour to get home. I had to go 4 miles out of town to a country road to get onto the interstate to go around the city to come in the back way to my house. I had 2.5" of rain in about 45 minutes. Presently without power. Power company says it might be on by morning, might.

Sorry to hear this.

That sucks, Ivan! I hope the basement is OK. I could probably make a generator happen yet tonight if you need it. Now, figuring out the route you took to get to your house might be an issue ...

Thanks my friend, I'll be okay. You would have no problem coming from your house to the Veterans business loop on the far south side. 22,000 without power. Power restoration is ATM undetermined according to Ameren.
Basement is fine. Going down every 2hrs pulling water out pouring down the drain my pops put in right next to the pit. PITA but beats the alternative for sure. The water is not coming in fast, thank god for the dry spell we had. -
Man, you have a long night ahead, it sounds like, but glad it's manageable. Yes, that would be my normal route. My sump pump has calmed down quite a bit the past couple hours, so hopefully that's a good sign for you. Hope you don't lose anything in the freezer, either!

If the Brisket, shoulder and ribs thaw, well I'll be smoking Saturday while putting new struts, inner and outer tie rods on. I'll let you know I'll need mouths to feed. Although I've not opened either refrigerator so fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Hope all is well with you Ivan! I keep getting texts from ComEd saying "we will restore your power shortly," yet we have not lost power....
We had nasty weather here with large golf ball sized hail July 27 in Plainfield, IL. Minor siding damage, roof OK. Trees down in neighborhood. I snuck on the roof and inspected it before the wife could scream at me not to. She says "73-year-old men shouldn't go on roofs!" I respond with "73-year-old men shouldn't fall off roofs!"
My back window on the Kia was shattered. The tint film along with safety glass sandwich film helped keep rear glass in one piece. A few dents in body.
I've done windshields at work and had tools to cut the polyurethane. Saved me some money at Safelite. I removed glass as it would have fallen in if I hit a bump. It was broken away at both sides and rainwater ran in. I had to remover rear seat, rear deck and side trim and all trunk trim as it and the insulation got wet. Water under hybrid battery where a space saver tire would normally be. Harman Kardon sound system survived.
Aug 11, three doors down, neighbors tree knocked down, we just lost some small branches.
While not weather related, August 4th at 1AM the ambulance took wife to hospital. The section where they removed part of her intestine flipped and caused a blockage. Got her out a few days later.

My BlackVue rear view camera survived.
I laid a tarp inside to first remove the big chunk, then reinserted it to cut the remaining bits stuck to the polyurethane. There were glass bits on the dash and front seats.

Shrinking away awaiting Uber...?
All dried out and reassembled. Glass was backordered, had to wait a week.
At least the lawn looks good for August...we don't water it in drought like we had in July.

Well hopefully Dana is doing much better Rich. Man you retired folk get bord and really know how to break up that boredom. Good work on the whip.
Last couple of days has made it abundantly clear why I have not set up a new fish room....glad I was home to prevent the arrival of the new swimming pool. -

Do you have power now?
Yes, I was without for 23hrs. Serious carnage was applied to trees and power poles. Some will be without for another day or two. I'm starting to consider buying a generator. Thing is I have a had time justifying spending that amount of money just to take up space in my garage doing nothing for 99% of its time.
Several times the power company sent texts stating power would be restored by such and such time. Obviously it never happened. Then at 3 a.m. I started getting texts that it was back into the "undetermined" time frame.
Trust me they have their work cut out for themselves. These guys are getting it done, slowly, but working 24 hrs work day practically. Thank your local Bigfoot @lightman1 Russ monster bucket truck maniacs.

Not good, not good at all.
The rain was just relentless overnight and this morning, from about 1:00 until 10:00. And, it looks like we may get another round tonight before we finally get some dry days next week.

Sump pump time.
You think I don't have a sump pump!?
I do and it works fine.
Unfortunately when the water comes through floor drains as sewage and over the top of your toilet as sewage you're kind of left to what happens is happening. Sure I blocked all the drains, how do you block a toilet? It's very hard!
The other thing is if you block all your drains and you block the toilet the pressure underneath your house will explode the PVC piping. Then you have a much larger dilemma going on. I screwed 19 inch PVC pipes into the drains. The pressure from the water coming in shot out of the 19-in PVC pipes another 2 ft into the air. Understand the amount of pressure going on now Tony?

This was the first flood back in 2022. See how nice my basement WAS?

This was after the remediation.
I had drywalled the back room 3/4 of the way. I completely redid all the electrical because I had to. Put a 60 amp sub panel in the basement and ran everything off of it with the proper gauge wire.
Now I get to start all over! I don't think I can do it. I can't redo this every 3 or 4 years. From 1992 to 2022 there had never been any water in the basement that wasn't spilled from a glass. So from 1992 to 2022 zero issues. Somehow the sanitation and stormwater system out here has been overwhelmed. There are two completely different systems rainwater does not go into sanitation and sanitation does not go into rainwater.
Now every time we get heavy rains there is a very good possibility that I'm right back in the boat I'm trying to row away from.
Yeah I'm a little salty today! 8 sheets of 4x12 drywall cut into half to go on the wall, GONE, bags of insulation Gone. I could go on, but I won't.
🤬🤬🤬😡
This is what we had ALL night long, just a freight train of a storm that just kept going on and on and on. I believe this was like at 2:40 ish am or so

I had 6" in my gauge from overnight. From Thursday afternoon until today our city has been just beaten. Some folks won't see electricity for another couple of days. The amount of trees taken out snapped off, we're talking very healthy not old rotting trees, of course there was some of those don't get me wrong. But the ground is so saturated from all this rain that major trees were just pushed over by the almost 70 mph straight line winds we had Thursday afternoon. If I remember correctly they said they were 66 mph. We got almost 3 in of rain and 45 minutes along with that serious serious wind. -
