some creature was diggin' around the bases of some of our birdfeeder poles last night (and not for the first time this spring).
While I was putting out the feeders this morning, I found evidence for the perp. I'd be tempted to say I caught it red-handed but it's more like brown-handed and I didn't technically catch it.

So: what do all y'all think? Raccoon?
That's my best guess, a priori (and FWIW).

Here in Wilmington, NC, we have a yearly Azalea Festival, and its date changes, but it's held around April 15th, just like the Masters tournament.

I worked for a Plumbing Co. out of Va. that got a job here in Wilmington that lasted for Months. I saw this City's Azaleas bloom. My boss and I fell in love with the Southern Charm, too. We moved down here during that time. March/April of "1986". He's moved to Montana now, but I've stayed right here. Here is what I see around my house every year around April 15th.

Covered Bridges, Bridges, Tunnels, and Ferries

I've been on one of these on a family beach trip to Panama City Florida in the early 1950's. I can't seem to locate a picture of the possible ferry. The possible routes are not logical unless my father took a wrong turn. I don't remember being frightened. (I think COVID in March has affected my memory by unlocking stuff way in the back of my mind)

That's in my neck of the woods. Atlantic Ave looking north. Approximately here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JmLbEW55BdmFvRtk7

My doctor's office is a couple blocks to the south. Interestingly they still pump oil in this area and there are pump jacks stashed all over the place. There are also three man-made islands a few hundred yards off the beach that pump oil from under the city. The islands are called "White", "Grissom", and "Chaffey". You oldsters will recognize these as the names of the Apollo 1 astronauts.

On this day in 1933, the Grumman Duck waddled into aviation history. And yes, once you see it, you don’t forget it. Big central float, biplane wings, and a stance that says it can land just about anywhere you need it to.

Rick Monday rescued the American flag on April 25, 1976.

    fdt1aia5bema.png

The flag that Rick Monday rescued 50 years ago today is headed to Cooperstown!

On this day in 1976, Rick Monday, a Cubs outfielder and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, grabbed an American flag from two protesters who had run onto the field at Dodger Stadium and attempted to burn it.

Rick Monday, the longtime Dodgers broadcaster who played 19 years in the Major Leagues, was a two-time All-Star and a World Series champion, has often been asked about the moment.

“If that’s all you’re ever remembered for, that’s not a bad thing at all,” Monday told MLB Network in 2016.

Rick Monday still owns the flag and it will be on loan to the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer as part of America’s 250th birthday celebration.

In addition, Rick Monday will be honored on July 25 during induction weekend.
