I went out last night to try and remove some more of this mess. It was late, I was tired from the first time out, Broncos lost so not in the best of moods and didn't finish.
Today I'm making the girls help me finish or it's not getting done. Not having the Snow blower run really sucks. I'm either gonna get it fixed or get a new one. I'm getting to old to be out there shoveling by myself especially the amount we got. We have a 3 to 4 foot mountain in front of out front entry way.

All the ice at my place melted in the afternoon rain yesterday and dried before the deep freeze happened this morning. So, it's just cold here. Low tomorrow morning is supposed to be 11F, which is very cold for Georgia.

Our area (upstate SC) escaped the worst that this storm could have offered us. Maybe 3/8" of a wintery mix frozen to the ground, with not much accumulation on the trees, since much of it was sleet that just bounced off of the branches.
It amazes me that folks are complaining that it didn't get as bad as the predictions. What? Some people don't know how to count their blessings and be happy that it didn't get that bad.
Driving will still be treacherous for a stint, but I for one, am happy that we escaped the worst. The original forecast was for between a 1/2" to 3/4" of ice. Who in their right mind would be disappointed that we didn't get what the forecast was? Are they hoping for widespread and catastrophic downed trees and power lines?
I just don't get some people these days.

Happy here too. I was dreading a lengthy power outage. I am never disappointed in a lack of ice buildup.

Yeah, this is what they were disappointed in not getting. In some areas of TN, they will be without power for days/weeks. I'll always be happy that we dodged that bullet.

These photos remind me of my childhood. My dad was a regional manager for the cable company.
When nasty storms would hit, they would offer massive amounts of OT to travel to hard hit areas to help get utilities and poles back up.
he would ALWAYS jump at it. The $$$ was a huge bonus for the family.
Whenever an employee was running OT/on call, it was a company perk that their residence received pay per view for free.
My dad always made sure to be "on call" for the big fights (with an understanding at dispatch to NOT call him
).
He finally realized when my older brother and I were early teens that free PPV meant, ALL PPV was free/unscrambled. That included the spicy stuff. I guess it somehow came up while they were eating lunch while he was traveling to put lines back up in Maine, and my dad just yelled "WTF, I HAVE TEEN BOYS IN THE HOUSE!".
Our fun was shut down after that. :'( -

Take care and hopefully, it doesn't hang around long. We lived in Wilmington from 1998-2000 and had a decent 2" or 3" snowfall one of those years, but being from Illinois, I could handle that a lot better than the 2 or 3 hurricanes we went through! 😳

I would ski a couple times a year, so snowfall wasn't a big deal. Sleet, rain and ice...now that suxks.
Drove my 1-ton 4WD down the street in Dallas area last weekend, and didn't even leave tire tracks on the 2-5" of ice on the road. Doubled back to look. Couple of pics from my house this morning. I’m about 100 miles NE of Dallas. I had to go to west Texas on Thursday, and the worst was about 50 miles north of Dallas. About a 70 mile stretch of highway was still one lane in
each direction.

3-1/2" or so of snow so far. It's expected to snow all day. Accumulation totals vary greatly, so I won't even begin to speculate. We went out this morning to run a few errands and just got back. We were in 4WD the whole time and no issues. Coming up the slight slope in the driveway, I took it out of 4WD, so we could back the truck into the garage....and it immediately got stuck. Had to put it back into 4WD to go the final 20 feet.
Just 3" down here versus 6 to 8" up in Northern Virginia are two completely different animals. It was much easier up there, and in a 2WD with rear wheel drive. Crazy. Tonight will be bad, as we are currently sitting at just below skinny dippin' temps, a paltry 24 degrees. We'll just hunker down and enjoy the snow at our house.
I have been down in the Charlotte area for over three decades and according to historical data, way back in 2004, we apparently had 11.6" of snow. I remember the storm, as my girlfriend at the time (who has since become my lovely wife) had to drive back home for work the next day, when it was around 2-3", but I do not recall getting 11 or so inches where I lived at the time. Maybe 5 or 6"? Other than that one storm, the most we typically get during those 3 decades, is what has already fallen. If we even get snow at all. It's usually just a flurry or no accumulation worthy of note.
No complaints here, as it isn't an ice storm. Those cause the most damage (along with power outages) and are no walk in the park. It sure is quiet outside and very pretty. At times, visibility is an estimated 1/6th of a mile.

We are currently sitting at about 6 to 7" and there is still more to come. Supposedly, it will not end until around 1:00 this morning. I will say this, it is such a wonderful sight. Almost as beautiful as in the spring, with all of the flowers blooming, and a pristine green lawn. This was about an hour and a half ago....

I think we have Petered out. It is still snowing but the totals are still the same, as the "fluffy" snow has collapsed a bit. Still record breaking in our area, but nothing to write home about compared to my old stomping grounds. Just a "cute" snowstorm, is all.

I feel like this is the first “proper” Upstate NY winter I’ve seen in decades.
12”+ snowfalls weren’t rare and subzero temps used to be the norm. We used to have weeks and weeks on end where it wouldn’t get above freezing. This January has been awesome for me because I feel like I’m seeing what I grew up with!
Last weeks storm dumped about 22” of snow on us and temps have been below freezing for essentially the whole month.
We even got to -12* last night!

It's 1:32 am, and it's still coming down hard.
It's super fine snow, but it's thick!
It's like a "white out" out there.
It's also 18* !! RARELY DOES IT GET BELOW 25*.
And the wind is blowing hard too. It's brutal for both wildlife and people who have no heat or limited access to it.
Our heat pump is running a lot tonight. I'm going to turn it down another degree to 74. That will help some. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

It's 3:30 am, and it's still coming down hard, just as it has all night.
Our cat, Oreo, is amazed by this phenomenon. He's seen this kind of snowfall before, last year.
I can see his little brain working overtime, though. He's such a cute doobie!
Ok, back to sleep for a little bit. It's supposed to snow until 7 am and then again from 8 am till 9 am.

We probably got 4-5" here in central SC and of course my outdoor mounted water heater is frozen with no hot water this morning. It's gonna be in the mid 50's later this week.
