I really doubt that a power tube in a preamp is going to get near as hot as it would in a power amplifier output stage.

What matters here is not how hot the tubes get but extending the life of, what are now expensive, tubes by removing what heat they do produce from the surface of the glass.

I’d prefer to never have to purchase another tube. IERC covers may be the way to do so and if I can’t get those I’ll find others that are similar.

I found the Pearl Tube Coolers (not sure if that's the brand above) to deaden the sound on a preamp but didn't have a negative effect on the sound from a 6550 tubed power amp. They were inexpensive enough to try out, at Parts Connexion recommendation, and stash away if not being used.

    Yes, those are Pearls.

I like IERC better - especially those with the internal “fingers” instead of plates.

Yes, Chris Johnson threw in a bunch for free to try out when I sent a Sonic Frontiers preamp in for upgrade. They were too much of a good thing on that 12 tube preamp but I did end up using some dampeners on the most important signal tubes to good effect.

The “Lefty” is back in production. Lefty as it’s the left side of the listening room.

    Odyssey Audio Kismet stereo amp.

    Bottlehead C4 headphone amp
Twisted Pear DAC hiding in the repurposed Yamaha receiver chassis

If he’s made of glass, he’s had a long lucky life. My wife collects dragons and plays around with glass.

Nice. I have one of those HP mini's with 1TB worth flac files. Great little Music server.

Did the gain reduction mod to give the volume pot some extra twist.

And, you shouldn’t be surprised, but the R200’s (upgraded) completely smoke LSi 7’s (upgraded).

7’s aren’t bad but 200’s are much better.

The base is almost done. Three sides are a single piece of cherry. My BIL took it and built this. Had I done it we’d have had firewood. I’ve done the finishing. It’s just tung oil.

Even the back (ran out of wood!) is nice.

Is there an upgrade thread for the R200's?

Almost done. Just waiting for my Odyssey amp to return. Borrowed it to Klaus at AXPONA. Headphones work just fine.

Nice job! Was that Cherry from the farm or the auction? I like the knobs too. You know you're getting old when it's RMD time. :D

This piece came from a sawyer we used years ago. He had a collection of bits he didn’t want and gave them to us. I think I took most of that. Some used in my cd shelving.
