New addition to the expanding collection, this is a pre-show printing advertising the upcoming concert. And JImi Hendrix’s first appearance at the Fillmore in 1967.

    le0p04ivts27.jpeg

This poster, for the “Opening of the Fillmore Summer Series,” is historically significant as it featured the Jimi Hendrix Experience as an opening act. This was also the first Fillmore appearance by Jimi Hendrix. These shows were just days after Jimi's appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, where he set his guitar on fire and blew away the audience.

When this show was booked by Bill Graham, Hendrix was a relatively new name that few had heard of, and so he was billed third, opening for Gabor Szabo and the big kids on the block in San Francisco, the Jefferson Airplane. After one night or possibly two, the Airplane noticed they were playing their second set to a half-empty hall - everyone0 had been there to see Jimi Hendrix! Both Szabo and the Airplane asked if instead he would play last and they would open for HIM. Jimi Hendrix never opened for anyone again and it’s important to note that the Beatles had stopped touring in August 1966 and with the possible exception of the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix was The Most Important Rock Star of the late 1960s era and until his death in September, 1970.

Gábor Szabó was a jazz guitarist, who was born in Budapest, Hungary. When he was 20, he moved to California and he later attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1961, Szabo became a member of a quintet including Charles Lloyd, playing what has been described as chamber jazz, Szabo was influenced by the rock music of the 1960s, particularly the use of feedback. The song "Gypsy Queen" from Szabo's debut solo album, Spellbinder (1966), became a hit for Carlos Santana

Funny you should mention Gabor Szabo, I just bought one of his prerecorded tapes as part of an auction:

A lot of Termite damage on that backside corner where the tub was. It even exceeds the 2' height by another 2 or 4'! . :s The corner 2x4 is toast! :s

No activity now, but will probably have to unscrew the siding next year and look at replacing the bottom band boards. I'll cut out the termite-damaged siding above the new corner board I just put on just to seal that wall on the bottom. :#

I might shovel some dirt away from the left side tomorrow. I've shoveled about 4 full wheelbarrows already. 3 dirt and one full of leaves and roots. The left side will be a PITA to shovel dirt out! But I'll get the blood flowing. Then I might jack that left side up in a couple of weeks and fix just those sideband boards. :#

Went to Manassas Battlefield for some family pics, walking back to the car the sunset wasn't perfect, needed another 15 min or so but we had to leave. Cell pic didn't capture the full contrast but I did get a few DSLR pics.

Indeed, that is in the 'painful' frequency range...definitely in the defeat realm.

The 681EEE in particular was a very fine piece of hardware.
I am embarrassed to say that I only learned of the... interoperability of Stanton & Pickering in the modern era; I had no idea back in the day.

That's the one I had. It had a little brush attached to it.
I'm a little late to this party, but agree these were/ARE very fine cartridges. In fact, JICO still makes brand-new replacement styli for certain vintage Stanton and Pickering cartridge models. I went through a stage of using this family of cartridges (almost exclusively), and always found them extremely neutral and balanced.

Between certain Stanton and Pickering cartridges, there are interchangeable styli, BUT a person must be very careful. Each brand had both MM and MI cartridges, so care must be taken if trying to do a "crossover".

Regarding the stylus brushes: my personal preference has always been to remove them. Rule of thumb is: if the brush is installed, the VTF setting should be 1g higher than typically published numbers. For example, the published VTF for a Stanton 681EEE is 0.75-1.5g, which is sans (without) the stylus brush.

My 681EEE was handy. I bought it new on Dec. 6, 1977. I bought a replacement Stanton stylus for it around 1980. The original stylus is shown with it's brush on left side in the case. The replacement is still on the cartridge on right.

I was duped back then to believe that a stylus was only good for a few hundred album plays. I've always kept my records and styluses clean.

I had the original stylus examined closely later by a tech and he said it was in great condition.

Yes, you increase tracking force by 1 gram when using the brush. I used the brush for a short time then took it off.

I always liked the sound of this cartridge.
