Monitor 4 upgrades

@nooshinjohn I said its garbage as it came from Polk originally. I think it has potential to be decent and thought it would be fun to try. I don't think it will ever be a great speaker, but it can be better than it was originally. That being said I haven't spent much money most of this was left over from other more interesting projects.
Plus, I though others might find it interesting and have ideas instead I encounter lots of clowns.
Also as stated wanted to get a little more practice with the veneer.
I also appreciate your sincerity and the fact that you weren't a jerk thanks

@nooshinjohn This is like comical cognitive dissonance. It is there in black and white for all to see that you were #4 in line with the snide remarks mucking up his thread. Psst. Monitor 4’s were really good speakers from the factory. Perhaps yours had problems such as capacitors out of compliance or something else. But they weren’t crap from the factory.

Amazing it just doesn't stop 🤣. yeh my capacitors were out of compliance so decided to veneer the speakers? what's wrong with you? have you read anything I was doing?
Do you own a pair and your actually speaking from experience? I do own 2 pairs, and I am speaking from experiencing. Do you have some kind of 1970s magazine article reviewing these and stating they are really good?
Nothing right? You just decided out of thin air that they are really good so you could argue with someone you don't know?
I don't believe these were ever intended to be "really good" as much as affordable.
I said I believe these have potential to be decent speakers considering they do have a decent woofer and a very good tweeter.
Jeeze .... the so-called president of your own forum has bashed these speakers repeatedly or you don't read your own forum of which you been a member for far longer than you should probably admit.Post edited by DeRod on"Equality is a myth to protect the weak. The 2 original capacitors"Equality is a myth to protect the weak. Some of us are strong in the Force, others are not. Only a fool believes otherwise." - Sith Proverb. -

The cabinets are not even 7” deep. With the original crossover almost touching the magnet and all the foam stuffed in between it completely muffles the bass and lower mids.
I’m sure creating that space behind the woofer is going to dramatically change the sound of these speakers."Equality is a myth to protect the weak. Some of us are strong in the Force, others are not. Only a fool believes otherwise." - Sith Proverb. -
Lighten up, Francis. You said, “it was garbage as it came from Polk originally.” That’s what I was responding to. And yeah, I’ve owned Monitor 4’s. As I’ve said many times on this forum, probably most recently when I reviewed the L200’s, I couldn’t believe what those little boxes produced, particularly the bass, and I think they may be my favorite of the monitors from that lineage other than the Monitor 7’s. I just recently gave them to a friend of mine in Colorado Springs who loves them as well. I’ve had pretty much all those Monitors and still have a pair of Monitor 5 Peerless, Monitor 7 Peerless, Monitor 7C’s, and I own or have owned a boatload of other Polk as well as other bookies, up to and including L200’s. And I’ve owned stereos since about 1970, so I dont have to rely on articles from that time period, I’ve lived it Sparky. If someone wants to disagree on the relevant merits of a speaker so be it, beauty is in eye of the beholder, but the Monitor 4’s were not garbage as they came from Polk originally.

Looks like I have enough wire left over from an other project to do the insides of both of these 👍"Equality is a myth to protect the weak. Some of us are strong in the Force, others are not. Only a fool believes otherwise." - Sith Proverb. -

That's cool.
So, this is totally not for you. I am trying to make these better. Not sure why you're even reading this.
I love Polk speakers. The surround system downstairs is all Polk and I own 8 pair of vintage Polk's.
If it somehow upsets you that I am trying to upgrade and improve these speakers just do use favor and don't read this like I said this isn't for you.
I like that you called me Sparky 🤣"Equality is a myth to protect the weak. Some of us are strong in the Force, others are not. Only a fool believes otherwise." - Sith Proverb. -
WOW!! 😳😳 Incredible!!

yeh wow is right.. I've received many messages from other member that won't comment but agree with me. They don't say anything because of the way you clowns react. Their messages in way inspired me not care too much about your opinions. Its shame that a small few can ruin a community."Equality is a myth to protect the weak. My WOW was to your attitude towards everyone. Such a condescending obstinate fool!
-
Nobody else is obstinate around here lol. 😆 I recall f1 telling people who were all happy with their new M10 purchase that it wasn't a very good speaker, not just once or twice too. And SL1000 and SL2000s which were Polks first tweeters suck. So cut Denis a little slack for being opinionated about his M4s so far. You all praised him for his M7 thread and he is not giving up on these in case you haven't noticed. Maybe there is something yet to be uncovered that is wrong with the inductor values, tweeter polarity, enclosure damping materials.........other possibilities. All you cronies that say you have had these speakers and not one suggestion out of any of you.George / NJ

Of course, you would say that when your part of the problem too. Another one that lives on an internet forum with your 25000 posts🤣. Denis check the midwoofers for suspension sag. Mine from the same era that are currently in my 7Bs, that are now modded with phase plugs and Armacell inside, are from parted out M4s and they sound fantastic. If the voice coil isn't centered it won't have the same xmax in both directions and could have a voice coil that starts to leave the gap. That'll mess up the sound big time. Mine measure 0.735 in. from the rear of the mounting flange to the point of the cone where the dust cap meets the cone.George / NJ

Those are the 4A with the 4 ohm tweeter and the 4 ohm MW6502. The version after that was the M4 Series 2 with the SL1500 tweeter which looks different.George / NJ

Let me see what I can do here. I will contact our SME and see if we can get that added onto the forums.
