ahh, I-81. That 'splains it! :)

As an aside (but not entirely), we've been spending summer vacations in recent years down near Myrtle Beach, SC. Now... one may fly from Manchester, NH to Myrtle Beach, but not with all of the cr@p that we schlep down there for a week in a condo :# -- so we drive.
Being old :# we split the trip into two days: day 1 gets us to Alexandria, VA, where we visit our son, daughter-in-law, and their cats, then we head out at oh-dark-thirty on day 2 to SC (as do the aforementioned kids, via separate conveyance).
Why do I mention this? Well, without going too deeply in the weeds, I have fond memories of schlepping from MD to NC by car in my youth. Traffic "down south" wasn't bad, even in (near) the big cities (Raleigh and Durham, in those days, en route to Greensboro).
Admittedly, the schlep to/from SC cleaves to I-95 (whereas my childhood jaunts split off on I-85, which is - still - a lovely drive from Petersburg, VA to the NC line), which was never any picnic, and is on Saturdays, when everyone's rentals begin and end... but... wholly moley ;) the traffic is hideous. HIDEOUS. Like worse (and more tedious) than the drive from NH to DC (which I call "belly of the beast" or "the mid-Atlantic slog")! :o:(
Oh, and, while VA and NC have nice state-maintained rest areas along their freeways, they tend to be hella crowded on summer Saturdays... so we typically stop at one of the many for-profit travel plazas along the way.
(and... here comes my point ) They're all more or less disappointing. Why no Buc-ees?

PS There's a billboard on the northbound NJ TPK for Buc-ees. It says something like "Buc-ees. U-turn next exit, then 579 miles". B)

Buc-ees is spreading like a growing fungus out of Texas and taking over the southeast. They will end up spreading much further north eventually. We have had something like 4 built in Georgia in the last 5 or so years. A few in Tennessee.
One thing that they require is cheap, wide open (flat) land...so maybe they won't make it to the dense mid-Atlantic and further up.

Whatever you do never stay at the Deluxe Inn in Kenly, NC no matter how desperate you may be for a room. Sleep in your car instead.

Nope. No way. South Carolina is full at this time.

You're probably right, I should move back to a state where taxes are outrageous and crime is legal!

Whereabouts in SC? I reside close to Charlotte, NC. Maybe we could meet up one day. Not very many folks on this forum around these parts. I think there's now only 3 that I know of. One of our local audio club members just moved to TN.

I'm in Elgin just outside of Columbia. I've kinda lost interest in the audio realm but still like to lurk on here. I was up thru Charlotte last weekend and I can't believe how large that area is, it must've taken an hour to get through it. I've only been here a month and must say, it's the friendliest place I've ever been, the natives are truly polite in general. Still adjusting to the culture shock compared to Illinois but I just love the people here!

I understand. When I lived in VA, near DC and would wave at folks going down the road? I'd get alot of middle fingers. Down here, you wave, they actually wave back. It's a sign that the both of you are okay.

The first thing I noticed was the relaxed atmosphere. Everything wasn't so damned rushed. Welcome to SC, I am down in Elgin from time to time for work.

Taxes and prices are also MUCH lower.

Lol; I did a lot more than a knee scrape when I crashed my 2 stroke bike in 73 and still had to go to work the following day.

This is officially the coolest thing I’ve seen in days…. Hallelujah, possibly a return to people acting like adults, and not a bunch of overgrown children. Although I would wager that the backlash is going to be fierce, lol

Folding fitted sheets is a two-person operation at our house. Our success rate is approximately 50%
Why don't they just make stuff sacks for fitted sheets, as they do for sleeping bags?
