Oh... when I was a postdoc, we brought in another postdoc in the lab who was just like that.
Actually, his shtick was more to ask for advice, then to argue with the advice he got.
He was also obsessed with being successful. Career-wise, he did OK, but he simply wasn't the hotshot that he thought he was. As my father would have said: He had a lot to be humble about.

I thought she was attractive back when the movie Gia was out, but things went downhill fast after she dated/married Billy Bob. Hasn't recovered since. -

I have always assumed that the Hollywood glamour he-man (so to speak) character on The Beverly Hillbillies, Dash Riprock, was a portmanteau (of sorts) of Rock Hudson and Rip Torn, with a dash of Dash thrown in.
Maybe it's just me...

Rip's real first name was "Elmore". He told me that when he was a young actor, he kept getting introduced as Elmer and Elmo, so he changed it to "Rip". -
Crunch Hardtack is a great Hollywood name.
Of course, now I am thinking of Race Bannon* who, wasn't, technically, even extant in corporeal reality.

Clutch Cargo -- sounds kind of inappropriate, doesn't it? Call me old-fashioned, but I believe that one should never clutch one's cargo except in the privacy of one's own domicile -- or with another consenting adult involved, and I would think that a safe word is a must.
