Here's the external power supply for the preamp, I built it first and used it with an Audio Research SP3 that I modified. Then when completed I connected it to the new preamp. I designed it so I could turn on the filament supply first, then when the voltage has reach the correct level (that's what the volt ohm meter is for) the high voltage power supply can be turned on. That avoids damaging the tubes, I haven't needed to change tubes in many years.

As a bypass, whenever I turn on my Canary pre? I turn it to the selection I want and wait (as I do other things) until it's ready to rock.
Usually about 5 minutes...

SeleniumFalcon wrote: »That is a Doge CD player that has a fully differential balanced six tube triode output stage. Really very good sounding. The art object was done by a local friend of ours, Dave Gibney. He used found objects and some Tandberg and Ampex circuit board parts I gave him to make it. It's great to have something abstract to look at while listening.
I would love to see a closeup of especially the art object and the CD player.

Dave is an amazing artist and person, he built his house completely himself. Designed it and constructed it piece by piece.

He even constructed all of the windows himself. -
This is a fireplace he built from scratch. -

He has been an inner city teacher in Baltimore, showing kids how to make a living restoring buildings. He and his wife have restored buildings all over the world, a gas station on Route 66 a swimming pool in the tropics. And the nicest couple you would ever want to meet. -
@SeleniumFalcon - that was very interesting Ken. So I went I tried to find more information.
I found this article.

Dave and Sarah operate a B&B where they live, very close to where the Appalachian Trail crosses South Mountain. Dave has created an outdoor sculpture path around the area where he lives and visitors can walk around it as it weaves over a stream and through the woods.

Nice article on your friend Ken. It would be fun to shadow him in his shop/studio for a day and listen to his life experience stories. Reminds me of a Wendell Castle or Wharton Esherick type of artisan.
You can see what looks like the Greene and Greene influence on the front door.

I am guessing that the driver's stretched out on their belly in that cab!
And folks thought the old days were dull.
PS I had the same thought looking at those bottom two photos. Be afraid -- be very afraid.
