Polk Assist Confirms Command But Doesn't Perform It

Options
Hi All,

First time poster.

Have had 2 Polk Assist speakers for a couple of years (bedroom & kitchen). Use them for listening to internet radio and setting alarms to wake up to favourite internet radio station. Have worked great until last week.

Now, if I ask Google to play a station, it says it is streaming it but there is no sound. If I ask it to stop the streaming (to see if it's a sound problem) it says that it is not streaming anything.

When I ask it to set an alarm it confirms that it has but the alarm doesn't go off. If I ask it to check if the alarm is set it says that there are no alarms set.

This problem seems to have started after a recent Google Home app update.

I have done all the troubleshooting I can find on Google. I have deleted the speakers from the Home app, uninstalled the app, completed factory resets on both speakers and then reinstalled the app and set up the speakers again all to no avail.

I am suspecting it has something to do with the recent app update.

Thank you

Hi, welcome! I suspect the problem is the Assist is no longer compatible with the update. But I'll check with a friend at Polk to be sure.

My friend confirmed the cause, the Google Home app update has caused the problem. I might be a good idea to contact them and see if there is a solution.

Same thing here, speaker responds like it's supposed to but nothing actually works. Also did the factory resets, no help Curious what you find out, I hope these aren't dead e-waste now.

FYI, I have an older Pixel XL running Lineage that I don't update apps on frequently, and thus has an older Google Home app version. Suspecting it might be something on the back-end that's causing our Assist speakers to be non-functional?

Just wondered if anybody has the solution to the non responding Polk Assist? I have three of them. Each just another Bluetooth accessory now. Is it time to change brand?

Based on what I've read, our Assists are stuck at Cast firmware 1.29 and a minimum version of 1.52 (or something around there) is needed to work with streaming services and the Home app now. It's frustrating to have abandonware, we only got a few years out of these devices.
