One would think that, just based upon its name alone, that pumpernickel bread would be more scrumptious than, say, some good Jewish rye bread but....it isn't !
And I'll say it: its not fair !!
Something needs to be done about that, somebody needs to so something !

Not sure how, but I somehow managed to bring up the 'recent activity' page. I was amused by the top "badge" entry.
Congratulations, @Mystery ! Didn't know this was a thing.

Well... they eat pretty much everything we plant that's not fenced and/or electric fenced... but the little ones are adorbsable.

Reminds me of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18
Him (trying to impress):Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate!
Her (decidedly unimpressed):Wut?! Do you mean I’m hot and sweaty!
Wouldn’t help his case if they were anywhere in the southern states… 😱Alea jacta est! -
FFOTY - Doc, I was out mowing the lawn before the heat wave hit and as I was about to wrap up the last 10 or so strips of grass, I notice something in the lawn, to the right of this huge mower. I stop and there is a fawn hunkered down, barely visible, and at first? I thought it was dead.
I paused and looked at it foe about 20 seconds, mower still running, and I saw an ear flinch....then I saw it's eyes blink.
I kept mowing and was gonna just mow around it (giving it plenty of room) but by the next time I got close, the poor fella couldn't stand the fear anymore and took off into the woods.
I could tell it had been there for quite some time, as the grass was discolored and heavily matted down. Hopefully, it ended up reuniting with mama.
If this ever happens again? I'll just stop mowing until I know the fawn is gone. Cute little sucker! Especially up close. When I stopped to look at it the first time? I was maybe 2 feet away from it.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

That is how deer work
Mom puts the kid(s) somewhere she views as safe, nestled in tall grass, and goes off to -- you know, do whatever mom deer do. The fawns stay put. They do not budge. It's a good adaptive strategy for survival -- until it's not. Predators are a risk, of course. Unfortunately, around here, some fawns also fall prey to haying operations.
The other thing that happens: Folks find the fawns, thinking they're abandoned. That can end badly, too. The local radio stations usually remind folks that an apparently abandoned fawn is, in fact, not at all abandoned. -
Mr. H, that mama doe in your pic has some of the scrawniest legs I've ever seen on a deer.
Your might want to put out a salt lick and some calcium infused alfalfa.

Yeah, she looks kind of skinny. See her ribs, too -- she looks kind of run down Her coat looks OK, though.
