I thought it was the bees knees. Still think it was the best sounding mainstream tape of the time. Especially compared to Memorex. Memorex sucked.

I could never get Memorex XL-IIs to record worth a **** . My best was this TDK SA-X and TDK MA or the Denon metal. The Denon metal tapes were very expensive. I tell you, if you recorded them Denon's at +4-5 into the red, you had a GREAT tape. Up until last year I still had all me cassette tapes. I've not had a player since 1996 B):#

Come to think of it I may still have them in a box in the garage.....

I liked the sound of the TDK cassette formulation (SA) a wee bit more than the Maxell (UDXL-II), although I always "felt like" Maxell tapes were "better". :p Don't tell ASR of my subjectivist rationale. B)

I used both. Both have held up well for 45 years, I must say. :)

I had many Tyco tracks and cars. the controllers sucked. They could lag so much that you either had way too much or drove like grandma. God they were fun for the time.

I had at least one Tyco set as well. I don't remember they were so bad, though. :)
I remember that the cars looked pretty good - which was important to me!

    Meanwhile, out in Christmasland...

Looking for something else entirely in old Audio magazines at WRH, I stumbled across this inside front cover ad from RCA, employing the seldom-seen cool engineers trope. B)
