Return of the Prodigal (grand)Son.
Dylan, my 14-year old grandson, came over to see and play the custom built Tele I've been piddling with for nearly 17 years. I finally got happy with it when I switched out the vintage single coil bridge for a modern variant with individual string saddles.
I taught him to setup the action and intonation in the playing position. He "got it" immediately and really learned a lot from the experience. The instrument now sounds like I'd always envisioned (maybe better!) The joy of hearing him play it is unmeasurable.
He also got his foot on a Dunlop Cry Baby for the first time (see extended right leg above). Mastered it immediately! We got to jam for a few hours and, when it was time to get him home for dinner, he wiped down the instrument and put it in the case (background of first pic). On our way out the door, I looked at him and said "grab it". He looked at me confused and I said "grab the guitar, it's yours". It still didn't quite register with him, so I picked it up and handed it to him. I don't believe I've ever seen anyone's eyes get that big with awareness. It gave me the shot of holiday joy I really needed. I hope your holiday is filled with the simple joys of family and giving as well!
PS - Dylan is getting a Cry Baby and pedal board from Santa. But, you didn't hear it from me.

Been doing some ceiling work around the house too. We don't use our ceiling fans anymore so I replaced 3 of the four so far with LED lights. Replaced 3 other lights with these same LED fixtures. Our house seems more modern now. Oh, I bought some dimmers and damn, LED dimmers aren't cheap! 25.00 a pop.
Oh well...I think it's worth it since I'm doing the work myself.
They're pretty cool lights.
I've put up 6 so far. 30.00 each I believe.
A smoke alarm beeped the other day. So I went to replace the battery. One terminal was corroded. I bought 6 new ones and put up 4. I feel safer now!
