Replacing sl2500 with sl2000

I recently found some monitor 5 series II with the sl-2500 tweeter that are damaged. Is it ok to swap in a good sl-2000 tweeter in its place? Are the crossovers close enough to go back and fourth?

    The SL2000 has a relatively flat response, except for a resonance peak between 12-13KHz. The SL2500/3000 tweeters do not have that resonance peak, however their overall frequency response falls as the frequency increases. A contour network was installed on most of the models that received the new tweeters, to compensate for this. Since we don't have T/S parameters for any of the older Tweeters, there's no way to predict how they'll react. I would imagine they'd be overly bright with the contour network.

    Thank you for your concise explanation. I’m more of a “why” than “what” guy.

    That's from DarqueKnight thread The Tale of 5 Tweeters. He later amended that with the SL1000 data when he got ahold of a few of them. The RD0198 would be the replacement for that SL2500.

    Cool. Thanks for the update.
    It would be super to add the Peerless too and see how well they match the modern day replacements.

  • I have found some data on the Peerless and I'll either post it in DarqueKnight's thread or somewhere else.

    That sl2000 should have been mounted up on the dash so it would be at ear level. Would get better SDA sound that way. :)

    One of the things I really liked about the old vbullet platform is it had a page of alphabetical letters. you could go from A to z and look at all the names that ever signed up on this platform. I have not found a way to do that on the new vanilla platform

    And yes I remembered cornhole from back then..

    SL1000 = 1.334
    SL2000 = 1.289
    Maybe these two are more swappable except for the 5db bump.
