GDP for the year 2020 was forecast to be in the 2% range until this virus came about. It is now forecasted to be in the 1.3% range for 2020, this mostly due to a supply chain interruptions.

People are going to quit spending as things deteriorate. Of course the FED will slash rates and fire up the QE printing presses. It won't work this time, cash will be king again. Throw in a little physical gold for good measure.

Oh, and wash your hands and don't touch your face.

Serious question here....how long does this virus live in air? Does anyone know or has it been reported yet?
    Emlyn wrote: »
It's not entirely clear yet because it is still being studied, but there have been studies of other coronaviruses that give clues. From what I have read from the CDC, the main transmission source is through airborne droplets between people in close contact. Like on cruise ships! Once no longer airborne in droplets, the virus can remain live on hard surfaces for minutes or days depending on the temperature and humidity environment. Sunlight kills it. If people wash their hands often and avoid touching their faces while out and about that surface to person transmission risk goes way way down. It also helps to avoid touching things with bare hands that many other people touch throughout the day such as door handles and elevator buttons. These rules go for anything though, not just a coronavirus.

Minutes or days sounds good. I was thinking about bubble wrap being manufactured and it possibly spreading that way. If it's only a couple of days, then no worries. Thanks,

    Tom

I have to chuckle a bit, as Sam's Club was completely out of toilet paper! Well, that sparked a bit of panic with the Mrs and we had to make another stop. I'm thinking, my goodness, we already have a bunch at home (At least one of those big packs from Sam's), but, I did not argue, just went with it!

All of this makes my head hurt, I’m trying to not let it be a focus on our life, just doing what we normally do, but making sure we take extra precautions with what we touch, and washing our hands more often, but going to the store, and the toilet paper is all gone cleaning supplies are limited to what you can pick from, cold n flu over the counter drugs are gone, the world is just plain crazy right now, and hard to just ignore it..

Italy's quarantine is hardly what the headline makes it out to be.
    What are the measures?
Night clubs, gyms, swimming pools, museums and ski resorts will be closed.

Restaurants and cafes can open but customers must sit at least a metre apart.

People will be told to stay home as much as possible

The virus is said to live up to 2 weeks on phones. Only a couple hours on steel/metal.
    But I'm not concerned.

This university president needs to be fired...

"The novel coronavirus is not the first challenge this region, or our university, has faced," Cauce urged. "It will not be the last. In its 158-year history, the UW has endured two world wars, a depression and other crises that have tested our resilience and our compassion.“

Seriously.... endured two world wars? Tell me, pray-tell, the horrors you experienced of two World Wars that your campus endured while safely isolated from enemy action within the boundaries of the continental United States.

That he has the stones to compare this to some of the greatest horrors in human history is appalling.

Yeah, man. What's the deal with toilet paper? I saw a fight between 3 ladies (online) and my father in-law said that similar things were happening at a Costco down in Florida where there was a long line for toilet paper. A LINE!

    What in the....?

What are people expecting.....supply line shortages of toilet paper? Is toilet paper made in China too? I doubt it. I did buy some KMB and CLX on Friday as the stock market panic continued.

How hard would it be to get some delivered from Amazon?

Please everyone listen to people who have the virus or are over the virus. Media is hyping this to scare everyone. The people I have listened to make it sound not as bad as the flu just more contagious, like pink eye.

Roy, it ain't like that. While the death rate is low (unless you are old and with pre-existing illness)? It's doom and gloom presented by many folks.

You and I have a .9 percent of being offed by this thing. Whoopdie-do! We have a higher percentage of dying if we cross certain roads. Some folks love to live in fear. In fact, I would swear they thrive on it.

I don't get it but I will say that the media is WAAAAAYYY over-hyping this thing. To the point of being ridiculous. Good to see you posting, my friend!

For something as trivial as the Polk ‘experts’ keep saying there sure is a lot of action trying to slow this outbreak down.

‘Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte signed a decree early Sunday that will put millions of people across northern Italy under lockdown due to the novel coronavirus.

The sweeping move puts the entire Lombardy region, as well as 14 other provinces, under travel restrictions, and is one of the toughest responses implemented outside of mainland China to get the Covid-19 epidemic under control.’

"The best estimates now of the overall mortality rate for COVID-19 is somewhere between 0.1 percent and 1 percent," said Brett Giroir, an assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, at a press conference yesterday. The good news is that as more testing data comes in, the lower the mortality rate for COVID-19 falls."

Yep... truly scary stuff. The common flu is deadlier that these numbers.
