I recommend Henry McKenna 10 year old B-N-B but it won awards for 2 years straight and can be hard to find...its only $39 locally.

also from Willet is: Rowans Creek & Noah Mills which are both excellent.

If you never tried a Rye I'd recommend "Knob Creek Rye" to start with.

...and perhaps Woodford Reserve rye while you’re trying ryes. We love it.
  • Glad I'm rum and coke guy. This bourbon **** is too complicated...

I like a good rum too, but once you've found the bourbons that appeal to you it's worth the journey. Need to try some Eagle Rare one of these days. But for now my doggies says it's time for the morning walk and then back to the barn I go.

Yes. I found it to be kind of too smooth.

Lacking in complexity for my taste.

For me, 4 Roses Yellow label is a bit "smoother" and cheaper too :)

Not a bourbon but my favorite Tennessee whisky is "George Dickel"

90 proof and is delicious neat or with ice. Unfortunately its not that available where I live.

I stopped into a new store tonight. It was explained to me by the clerk that the “standard“ beverages are sold at state minimum. In short, Michigan has a monopoly on liquor.
In a locked glass case he had several “secondary market“ beverages to choose from. These are bottles that he can price as he sees fit. He had a bottle of Stagg for 500 clams! Says he can only get 2 bottles a year of that rarity. Hence the crazy price

    I picked up these . . .

I like the 4 Roses Single Barrel... how does it compare to the Small Batch? Haven't tried that one yet

    This.

Only ever had it in Kentucky at The Brown Hotel until a couple weeks ago when I stumbled on it at a small mom and pop shop for $36.

Way better and smoother than a 10 year has any right to be.

If you can find it, pick it up.

I promised to share mine with a friend and it's really hard not to drink it all until he finally gets his **** over here to share.

It is bottled in bond, though, so it's a solid 100 proof. Stronger than normal 90-92 proof. With how smooth it is, one can get in trouble faster.

Chad & Sara from "It's Bourbon Night" call that a Perry pour B)

is that Knob Creek Small batch or single Barrel?

I'm not a Scotch fan but after trying and liking some Irish Red Breast 12 I had to try some Balvenie Double Wood 17 and it was pretty good for a Scotch ;)

Now back to the Henry McKenna!

Okay New Years is coming up soon and...I tried some "Barrell Bourbon" 2019 New Year's batch and it very special...was like $89 & over a hundred with taxes added.

Me and Todd @tratliff had a long talk at Skip's about "Barrell Bourbons" Stuff and we are both big fans of it and I know we both highly recommend trying one if you get the chance. It isn't cheap but it is worth the price... and if you buy one and don't like it just bring it to skips or LSAF and we will buy it back from you and buyi you something else to replace it B)

The Blanton's was my every day bourbon the last few months of my drinking career. I could get them at my local Costco, they would release them about once a month. I'd buy 6 of them and felt like a bandit.

Although I really enjoy Blantons I don’t think it competes with some of the brands in the same category. I generally like bourbons of a higher proof.
