Essentially you lost your account if you don't know the email address you registered under or can't access it.

I tried under my Vr3 email and it was an odd name... Tried under my personal and it was vr3

Ok gang, unfortunately some of you will have to start fresh with a new account.

Vanilla detected a vulnerability and issued a patch to fix it, which also involved password resets. I cannot answer why some have run into problems doing so or why some received a new user name without asking for one. The bottom line is there is no going back. I hope we don't lose anyone because of this, but as I understand it the problem was security related and the fix was intended to protect your information.

Thanks for following up Jesse. With the not so recent barge of security issues, and the incessant spammers, hopefully the patch will help.

Oh well, looks like I get to keep posting trash for awhile longer....
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I don't have any direct experience with Vanilla, but I can't see how the accounts are irreparably inaccessible. This stuff's all database driven. Data doesn't just selectively disappear or become corrupt for no reason.

Someone with access to our Vanilla management account and direct interaction with forum members should be able to offline-verify those members, update their email addresses manually, and/or release those original accounts for update.

Also, users are partly responsible here to keep their contact info updated.

What kind of personal information does anyone really have tied here to protect, anyway? All I see is an email address on my profile.

Heavy handed, poorly planned. Requires a live person to fix.

Makes me question if someone is playing with the database. I deal with databases all day and strange things take place when unqualified people start thinking they have the knowledge and expertise to perform updates.

Your "new account" has default settings that you can change to stop that.

Click on the little "GEAR" icon next to your username and avatar. (Account Options)

In the drop-down box, click "EDIT PROFILE".

    Click "Notification Preferences".

At the bottom of the list (shown below), where it says "Notify me of private messages", uncheck the box (circled in RED) in the "Email" column.
