More fires but you can't beat the weather, yeah right.

John, one of those fires is close to you (your side of I-405). Hope the smoke is blowing the other way! The winds this morning were concerning, but they died down around noon (at least over here), so maybe they’ll get it under control.

Santa Clarita is definitely more concerning.

Fingers crossed for both of you.🤞

it was like a whole different weather storm out here in the IE. We had 2 this week, I plan on getting some footage of the little mountain fire from Wednesday and if all is under control I will fly over the Waterman Canyon area also and see the damage. Yesterday near hwy 18 it look like it was coming down the canyon and into the neighborhoods just above 40th street. Those people have suffered through the Panarama fire in 80, The Grandprix/Old Fire in 2003 and now this. I live about 15 miles west of the current one.

    Things are clearing up.

The Sepulveda basin fire (closest to John) is 80% contained. The Tick fire, up near afterburnt is still a cause for concern. 40,000 people were evacuated overnight. Houses burned. It’s not like Paradise last year (they have options for getting out, for starters), but it’s not good either. Still windy and only 5% containment, but even 5% is light at the end of the tunnel in these scenarios, usually. The winds are expected to die down this afternoon, and an onshore flow is also expected, which can make a huge difference (brings humidity).

Hope everyone is safe and gets to enjoy their weekend.

Few small fires in San Diego today.

The one by Ramona smoked us out 15 miles away in Rancho Bernardo. The Valley Center one is the scary one, close to homes. Some home owners were using pool pumps to protect their homes. Seems to more the norm for the county now. Live in fire area and have a pool, have a pump hooked to it.

Hope you guy's up north are ok.

Getting some smoke/haze in the air here in the east bay from the Kincade fire which has unfortunately now grown to a massive 23,700 acres in size. So grateful to all the firefighters currently putting their asses on the line to fight the fires that are raging in the state.

PG&E shutting off the power again tomorrow for 850k customers in northern CA, in anticipation of high winds on Saturday night into Sunday morning. Even though I'm not in one of the areas that will be losing power, I feel for my fellow residents who will be without power. The emotional impact of the current situation is quite palpable.

at the end of the video has me wondering. two homes gone pools are full. house on the bottom left is still there and pool is drained. Did they have a pool pump? I've seen some in our are that have pumps hooked into their pool. When fire get close they crank on the pump and put it out.

Really sucks these fires keep happening. California is a special place and as a State they need to figure out how to stop them from spreading with the quickness. This isn't anything new. I would loving nothing more then to live out there but with all these fires my luck I would buy a house and a week later it would get caught in one of these crazy fires. :(

  • In SoCal we have the disadvantage of living in a area that gets less than 24" of rain annually. The last two winters have over reached those levels and bring forth a large amount of new growth. At the end of winter and when spring comes it looks awesome, but as summer approaches those pretty poppies turn into dried brush just waiting to burn. In SoCal we don't get lighting strikes, (very rare), so 90% of our wild fires are related to some man made cause, either directly or indirectly. The Santa Ana Winds is just like adding Nitro to an engine. I hate when news casters get on the air a say its "RED FLAG WARNING IN AFFECT", Its like setting off the starting gun for arsonist. Along with dropping temps causing those (homeless) to start fires to keep warm. It's just a recipe for danger!

I get your point, but no one can control the wind, just like the rain, but what can be done is stop shouting "RED FLAG WARNING". When we get these conditions the weather gets top priority on every channel, as if it was a police chase or something. You get 3-5 min of news then "Lets check with so & so on the weather". Its like they want to have something happen so they can get higher ratings with all their field reporters sent far and wide to get all the coverage.

True but one pool drained and home standing. Two pools full and house's gone.

The people who live east of me have gas operated pool pumps. There was a fire out there a few weeks ago the home owners had it almost out by the time the fire department showed up. That fire was started by a gas operated weed wacker clearing brush, go figure.

There is a lot CA government could do but doesn't.

Or maybe they want to give people as much of an early warning as possible. If they didn't, then people would say "you never told us". It's a catch 22 for them, damned if they do, damned if they don't.
