The T-38 was going to be my guess as you are wearing an AF patch and have butter bars on your shoulders. B) As a general rule, you would have traded in those bars for silver ones about the time you got to your assigned aircraft type.

    Sheppard AFB?

Marine Corps pilots usually got their promotion to 1st Lieutenant before they got out to the fleet as well. It was rare to see a butter-bar with his name on the canopy.

All branches of the service have the same “time in grade” rules for promotion ....
    2 yrs to 1st Lt , then another 2 yrs to captain , 11 to Major , etc .....

Marine pilots HAVE to complete basic infantry school AND Platoon leadership school ( or whatever they call it now ) PRIOR to going to pilot training .... grunt first , pilot second is their mantra ....
Therefore , they have spent more “time in grade” than the other services upon earning their wings ......

Most military pilots think you’re CRAAAAAZY to be a Marine 😃
Most guys just wanna fly - not be a grunt ..... BUT - we have a TREMENDOUS amount of respect for them because it is a much , much more difficult path to go down .... something I would have NEVER, EVER made it through.....
The Marines are hard core , the AF is a flying club by comparison- until the bullets start flying - then we all get our **** together and do what needs to be done .

I will say this - seriously - in 28 years of airline flying , I have never flown with a mediocre Marine or Navy pilot ... they have all been good.

there’s a reason it’s called the “Chair Force”

The marines deploy to tents , the Navy to boats , the army to foxholes , the AF to hotels ..... perfect airline training ... 😃

Oh , man ..... you sound like all my friends 😃......

The airlines operate on a seniority system ...
Could have had it 15 years ago .....
wife has a high paying job ...
Have a 15 yr old son

as a copilot I’m much more senior than as a captain 12/400 vs 140/400 on my plane in Dallas ...

And there’s 11 ahead of me in my seat , on my plane , in Dallas who think like I do ....

I only work 2 days a week , no fri sat or sundays .... home every night , holidays off,
    Work when I want , don’t when I don’t .. full paycheck ..
    100 % lifestyle flexibility.....
    A FANTASTIC job ....

Basically, I’m into quality of life ....

Why mess that up ? 😃

Never heard of anyone’s deathbed words being “ I wish I’d worked more ...”

    Can’t wait to retire 😃

Ps - hope that didn’t sound bad ......but it’s the truth 👍
