Dave, are you planning to sell them or they for a customer?

This is the extremely happy customer. I’ve been a member here since 2005 and have been lurking ever since. This is actually my first post.

I’ve owned the speakers since new. I think I bought them in 1990. I joined the forum back in 2005 so that I could get a deal on the RD0194 tweeters. In the last couple years I decided to give them a once-over.

I made new wiring harnesses, made a Neutrik Speakon interconnect, sealed the cabinet, hurricane nuts, Cardas posts, powergrabbed the magnets, Dynamat … all of the usual suspects. I did notice some improvement, but knew that I ultimately needed to tackle the crossovers.

Enter David and his magic. We talked about what would best meet my needs and that is what you see above.

If you are on the fence about either recapped or new crossovers, you should just bite the bullet and do it. I can’t overstate what a difference the crossovers made.

My modest system is a Adcom GFP-750 pre, Carver TFM-35 (power supply caps replaced) and a Cary CDP 303/300 cd player running Telefunken tubes.

    I immediately noticed the following:
    - Increased depth of the soundstage
    - Increased power requirement (David said due to the new inductors I’m down to 4 ohms nominal)
    - I now have bass even at low listening volumes where previously I had none
    - The step up from the RD0194 to RD0198 is dramatic. Much more detail and no hint of listening fatigue.
    - I didn’t notice the loss of overall detail due to the decay of the old crossover until the new ones were installed.

Anyway, thanks again to David. I would absolutely do this again, and would recommend anybody thinking about crossover work to contact David and get things rolling. Top notch guy, and top notch sound.

Add another one to the ranks of the Hearing Is Believing crowd. Don't wait so long until you post again ;), and congrats on the upgrade.

Do I need to mount the crossover plate differently since the old inductor is connected via risers and attached to the bolt on the back?

You can make a new mount, or just leave the old spool and connect the leads to the new inductors.

Cool, I might reach out to you soon to do that. I still have your business email. Thanks Dave!

These are basically them same as my CRS 4.1TL's Dave made foe me as I used all Sonicaps also. and the Super Q inductors.

So I now they are special ;) as I current have them in my SDA 2B's :p

Some day I'll have Dave fix up my 2b crossovers...but I wanting till he has his foot problem fully healed and more time on his hands as I can switch between my SDA as needed for now!!

Codycatalist - I don’t know what you’re running for an amp, but if you get the new inductors make sure it has enough grunt to handle the lower impedance.

good stuff here. My Speakers are now 4 ohm speakers and not 8 ohm after the TL mod!

To use the Super Q inductors they have to be tuned or turned down to the correct value..which isnt for anyone to do . Dave knows how to do this I tried once on a cheap pair without much luck burning off the coating and trying to turn it down and measure it correctly... not for the faint at heart.

Yeah I know. That's why I didn't do it originally. I now have an Adcom GFA545 so it'll handle the load fine. :)
