Many have been named, and for obvious and good reasons:

Clapton (there was a reason they said "Clapton is God"
Page (most "feeling" in white boy blues solos on planet?)
Hendrix (when Are You Experienced came out I considered it nearly perfect)
    Zappa (Genius)
Stevie Ray (1st guy that I thought was dang near as good as Hendrix)
Knopfler (I'm still going on Knopfler binges all the time)
    Gilmore (like I just said)
    Albert Collins (Master)
    Rory Gallagher

    How about a few more:

Mississippi Fred McDowell (Country blues extraordinaire)
Lightnin' Hopkins (I'm still going on Lightnin' binges all the time)
Alvin Lee (started listening to him in 7th grade
Phil Manzanera ("801 LIve", Roxy Music, Gilmore ((co-produced On An Island))
    Robert Fripp (Genius)
    Adrian Belew
Carlos Santana (saw him for free in a park in Berkeley in '78)
    Bill Nelson
    Reeves Gabrels
    Gary Moore
    Bjorn Riis (Airbag -fantastic Norwegian)

I really like this CD. "Who Else"

The slow jam that starts at 8:20 is NICE too!
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Tom Morello is another superb guitarist that has not been mentioned as far as I can discern. Rave Against The Machine as well as solo work.
