SDA 1C & Parasound A23 running in mono?????????????????

Just a quick question for the forum; Can i use two A23 amps in mono to power my 1C's?? One for each speaker that is. Does running this in mono make it non common ground? I am in on the dreadnought purchase and waiting for delivery. So with the dreadnought should i be OK? Please some thoughts.

    I’m using an A21 on my 1c’s...
Just curious , does a single A23 in stereo provide you enough current and power for your 1c’s?

    Thanks

The A23 is only compatible with minimum 8 ohm loads when used bridged mono, so not a good idea even with the transformer. The transformer is necessary with mono amps if they do not share a common ground. A single A23 run in stereo mode would be sufficient for 1C speakers unless really pushing them hard.
  • @Emlyn thanks for pointing that out. I just read that at the bottom of page 18 in the manual. I think 1C's are 6ohm or less. I just wanted to replace my 1500a amp. Since the A23 has 15 amperes less per channel & less watts per channel 125 to 205 i was thinking of going the mono route so there would be no noticeable loss in current & power. I guess it was a decent thought. :|

You will also be raising the noise floor running them bridged.

    I'd pass on that idea.

I'd use the 1500a on SDAs unless going bigger like with an A21. The 1500a is a very good sounding amp itself with SDAs, and plenty powerful for most speakers. I keep one around for occasional use myself.
  • I dumped my brand new A23 for a HCA-1500 to drive my SDA2B's. The difference was quite obvious.
2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

So you noticed that big a difference. If i may ask what was missing?

I'm starting to have minor problems with the 1500. Right side channel is cutting out. If i put my hand on the ic cable and try to move it a bit the sound comes back on. Right channel problem only.
