Not sure I can get it down to one.
If I had to pick just one -- prolly RT.

Patty Larkin & Pete Townshend (in his prime) would be right up there, too.

Wow. I have to say no other artist invokes emotion for me like Gilmore on the strings.
    Agree 100%
Not saying he’s the best ever, just the best for me (and Ivan it seems )

Bill Frisell for jazz. Lots of others worth mentioning...Nels Cline, Julian Lage, Mark Knopfler, Clapton, and others. But I play a lot of Frisells albums.

David Gilmour is one of my favorites but check out the early days of Lindsey Buckingham. Holy cow he was unreal.

Also did you see where Lindsey May never sing again? Damn what a shame if it ends up that way.

    Love that guy.

I have several but George Lynch is my absolute favorite. Originally from Dokken.
I also really like Steve Vai , he expresses his notes probably better then everyone.
Eddie Van Halen is the most creative and I deeply repect his style.
Randy Rhoads for his early killer licks with his time with Ozzy.
Reb Beach from Winger is also one of my all time favorites. Extremely expressive and crazy smooth player.
Al Di Meola is one of those players where every time he plays your jaw drops in wonder. What an amazing player he is.
I could go on and on all the bad **** players I like.

Larry Carlton, Jeff Beck and David Gilmour are at the top of my list. Gilmour isn't as flashy as the other two but he makes up for it in pure emotion (watch David Gilmour Live at Royal Albert Hall).

Can't disagree with that trio and I will add John Petrucci and Roy Clark. Can't leave out Page, Hendrix and Zappa.

Hendrix was my original hero back on the 70's when I started to play. He played a White Strat like mine.

Steve Vai is, IMO, the best guitarist of the "speed style" playing. Period. I saw him play Van Halen's Eruption in double time in Oakland in 1988. His precision is unmatched. I really like Flex-Able. It's a good balance of emotion and precision.

I also really like Sex and Religion and Passion and Warfare.

I have to be in the mood to listen to Vai though. He's not an every day listen for me.

I just listened to a Susan Werner Live CD, though, which may explain everything.
