Morality question....

I ordered something online, from a 'big box store'. According to the invoice emailed to me, I've been billed for 1 item. Upon opening the package, I discovered 4 of said items.
Based on the retail price, they'd be out $180.00 max. if I kept them.
(Knowing retail mark up, it's prolly considerably less.)
Should I notify them, or just consider it a "windfall"?
(And YES, I could use the extras, as they are prone to being lost/ stolen)
TIA
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Notify them. Not doing so would be unscrupulous.
  • Big box store? They have enough to cover it, I personally would probably keep it because they will ask for return shipping and I am not one to go drop something off to the post office. I hate that stuff.

If it were a person and not a big box I would return it.

Besides being the morally right thing to do, they NEED to know that a mistake was made. Somebody screwed-up, and they need to know about it.

Just got off the phone with them. They'll be getting the items back tomorrow, at a local store-which DOES NOT stock this item, hence the online order.
I'm glad that Club Polk hasn't gone down the tubes

If you're looking for a reason to keep the extras, consider that if you report it, there's sure to be some poor kid getting fired, but not before he gets waterboarded and whipped with the Cat-'o-NineAQcables.

I had ordered an item on-line, and received multiples as well. I reported it, and the company told me to keep em! Granted they weren't hugely expensive, but Karma was reciprocated immediately that day!

Now, if you'd ordered an Alexa-enabled Polk wireless speaker and gotten four of 'em, we might have responded differently.

Usually, when you ask a question like this you already know the answer. Having said that, I would NOT have asked the question and would have sold the extras here on Polk Audio at Polkie prices :^ )

They are 2 separate statements. I think people with integrity enjoy good karma--not because they are doing the right thing to "avoid punishment" or expect a payback.

Part of integrity is NOT expecting anything in return.

I'm sorry, but this is empirically false. Many people are decent, law-abiding citizens that don't steal and cheat, and treat other people with respect, and their lives suck. Bankruptcy, cancer, car crashes, robbery, all manner of thing happen to "good" people. Why do you think "why do bad things happen to good people" is a perennial human question?

And to think all on this thread practice morality and integrity every minute and day of your lives, I think not.

But that in itself does not make a bad person. Just as long as you try your best, after all you are only human.
