I ordered something online, from a 'big box store'. According to the invoice emailed to me, I've been billed for 1 item. Upon opening the package, I discovered 4 of said items.
Based on the retail price, they'd be out $180.00 max. if I kept them.
(Knowing retail mark up, it's prolly considerably less.)
Should I notify them, or just consider it a "windfall"?
(And YES, I could use the extras, as they are prone to being lost/ stolen)
TIA

Notify them. Not doing so would be unscrupulous.

Big box store? They have enough to cover it, I personally would probably keep it because they will ask for return shipping and I am not one to go drop something off to the post office. I hate that stuff.
If it were a person and not a big box I would return it.Just a dude doing dude-ly things

My experience (and my opinion, FWIW) is, when something like that happens, it is best to disclose it. Unless the item is something of great value, they may well say "thanks for telling us. Just keep 'em".
EDIT: Oh, the other way to look at it: suppose you ordered four, and got one. Would you tell them? I try to think about symmetry in situations like this. I also tend to think of karma, even though, technically, I don't "believe in" karma.

I had ordered an item on-line, and received multiples as well. I reported it, and the company told me to keep em! Now, if you'd ordered an Alexa-enabled Polk wireless speaker and gotten four of 'em, we might have responded differently.

Well, I also don’t believe in karma. But I do believe in integrity. You do what’s right because it’s right, not because of what you might get back. Cause there’s no guarantee that you’ll get it back. They are 2 separate statements. I think people with integrity enjoy good karma--not because they are doing the right thing to "avoid punishment" or expect a payback.
Part of integrity is NOT expecting anything in return.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

Good things happen to good people.
I'm sorry, but this is empirically false. Many people are decent, law-abiding citizens that don't steal and cheat, and treat other people with respect, and their lives suck. Bankruptcy, cancer, car crashes, robbery, all manner of thing happen to "good" people. Why do you think "why do bad things happen to good people" is a perennial human question?Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

And to think all on this thread practice morality and integrity every minute and day of your lives, I think not.
But that in itself does not make a bad person. Just as long as you try your best, after all you are only human.
