Hurricane's direction is looking bad for me.

    Thanks guys! ;)

Yes I am. I live in the exact dead center of the peninsula. About 4 or 5 miles in but I'm on a high portion of this county so flooding shouldn't ever be an issue.
I live right under the 1411 on this map. under the 11 side of that number.

We are covered pretty well. I have 2 close neighbors who haven't paid for insurance for 10 years or more. One of them did cut down a big pine tree years ago because of the threat from a Hurricane that was heading our way.

Just the other day, Fri., a neighbor up the street had some trees removed by the same Tree Service who we had take down our huge leaning Cedar tree years ago. They must've been on a long list to get service when a Hurricane is heading our way. ;)

A lot of us are hoping it veers up and to the right. Missing land altogether. But....

Mike Sydell is here in town already. Jim Cantore is rumored to be heading to Figure Eight Island.
    xogoaaq4jbs5.png
Figure Eight Island is just above us and the homes on there are "cost no object" for a lot of them. Presidents and Vice Presidents Vacation on that Island. That's how nice and secure it is. But it's Ocean front. Just like Wrightsville Beach and all the other Beaches lining this coastline are.

Cape Hatteras and all of the OUTER BANKS were given the MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER today I heard. All non-rescue/vital personnel should LEAVE now. I heard that tonight too.

I'm glad it wasn't as bad either. I have a sister-in law who has a vacation trailer down there on the West side. It sustained room damage and leaked but the trailer and the shed stayed put. They went down a week later and there was a lot of Christian helping hands helping people that needed physical help removing wet stuff from homes.

I feel the whole East Coast has been lucky this year up to this month. It's like the storms are lining up to make-up for us having a pretty good year, except for a lot of rain this summer.

I think the Beaches are clearing out and that's a very WISE move. Rumors say the storm surge might be 12+ with this one.

I've heard a lot of us inland or that are in brick homes are still thinking about staying.

  • Weather/News channels are already whipping the folk is SC, NC, VA, MD, DE, NJ into a frenzy. Truth be told that a hurricane hits land and has a bad effect on about a 15 to 50 mile path once it makes landfall and then slows down. Weather channel was predicting UP to 60" of rain in landfall area. Seems extreme but when they get 20" they'll say you "really dodged a bullet". It is going to hit where it hits... make a mess, then slow down and then rain alot. Rain and tide always cause the most damage.

Get away from the coast.... Get supplies.... be safe.... get connected to a reliable weather source and avoid listening to the fear mongers who are in it for the ratings.

If you live near ground zero and have to evacuate take important stuff with you including your insurance docs.

I don't give this as advice.... but I have waited until there was a good idea of where the storm was going to hit after everyone has evacuated... If everyone has already evac'd the roads are clear and you can outrun the storm knowing which direction is the safest to go... Just make sure you are fueled up prior to. A full tank of fuel can get you 400 miles which is plenty of distance to get away from a storm. When Irma hit I went 100 miles NE away from the coast and was home the next morning. Go northwest. west or southwest

So you're saying be the last guy out of town? No offense but that sounds like HORRIBLE advice. Think about it. You're trying to outrun a hurricane at the last minute. What if Murphy's Law decides to pay you a visit with let's say a flat tire or other car issues. What then?

If the authorities call for mandatory evacuations then by all means GET OUT!

Good advice to leave the coast. I knew some people who decided to ride out Hugo near Charleston in 1989, and they did not have to deal with that one sitting over them for days. They said that was a bad mistake.

People who do decide to hunker down should be prepared to be self sufficient for a couple weeks.
  • I said "I don't give this as advice" but that works for me and I have been thru Ivan in Grand Cayman, Irene NJ, Sandy NJ, and Irma is SWFL.

YMMV and make sure you have a good spare tire!!!

I had friends in Charleston during Hugo and that was a mess..... If you live across a bridge or causeway you will prolly be evac'd .

Last year here in Florida for Irma there was alot of damage where the storm hit but they evac's the entire west coast of FL and 2 or 3 towns areas got it bad.

If this storm stalls when it hits land, they say it has the possibility to dump over 3 ft. of rain. That's like Houston rain, and look what it did to them.
