$100 Polk SDA SRS

Just scored a set up Polk SDA SRS for $100. I may have the amp that was originally bought with them as well for $20. They couldn't tell me what the amp was because it was in storage and they will dig it out but they said it's about 50 lbs.

The SRS are a little banged up but all tweeters and drivers are functioning and not a mark on them. The scaring is limited to the wood and a few small tears in the fabric.

I'll keep ya all posted with picks.

The speaker fairy was good to me this year.

Now trying to figure out what I'l do with them so my first questions are:

    1. Does Polk still sell the MW6511 SDA drivers?

    2. Can the SRS crossover be vr3 modded for 1.2TL

Assuming of course I'd be swapping out the tweeters for the RDO's as per VR3 mod.

Does Polk still sell the interconnect cable? This set was missing them but for $100 I wasn't going to pass them up.

Without double checking I do not believe anything is the same.

Polk sells the blade/blade cable you need.

Polk does sell replacement MW6511 drivers, they are sonically identical, but not cosmetically identical, to the original MW6511. The new MW6511 drivers have dull gray cones whereas the original MW6511s have shiny black cones.

However, the SDA SRS does not use the MW6511 dimensional driver. It uses the MW6503. The MW6511 and MW6503 are not interchangeable.

    ZaPHoN wrote: »

No. The original SRS and the 1.2TL are entirely different speakers. Even the cabinets are constructed differently. The only things they have in common are the MW6503 stereo drivers and SW150 passive radiators.

If you bought these with the idea of converting them to 1.2TLs, that is not possible.
Only the SRS 1.2 can be converted to a SRS 1.2TL.

Your prior comment about modding the SRS into a 1.2TL leads me to think that you might be considering replacing the SRS's SL2000 tweeters with RD0198 (SL3000 equivalent). You can only use the RD0194 (SL2000 equivalent) tweeter in the SRS.

    Picks coming.

How do the fabric covered panels come off so I can recover then (Couple small holes in the sides) and what type of wood is the top and sides? I have to shave down one side a bit and try and match up a veneer because there is a gouge on it. Front fabric is surprisingly in decent shape but planning on replacing fabric anyway because the edges of the grill frame seem to be creased into the fabric,

Here they are. I also have a McIntosh MC2125 coming from the same previous owner for $20. All together with nine hours of driving ($150 Gas) $100 for the SDA SRS and $20 for the McIntosh I'm a happy camper.

Ok just got the McIntosh MC2125. She's rough! Face plate is bubbling and VU meters light up but don't work and they look like they overheated.

It works though and sounds good.

Any idea what this thing would be worth as is because I don't think I'll be putting the money into it.

OMG, send it to me. seriously, McIntosh sells new faceplates and meters. The discoloration is from the bulbs behind the meters more than likely. That amp sells on ebay for about $1000-1200 in working order. I put new meters in one of my amps and new bulbs in the other. I also bought new blue filters for the meters but haven't put those in to change the color to match the newer LED versions. There are also LED retrofit kits available.

and there is a NEW faceplate on ebay now for $250. McIntosh might be cheaper. I don't recall what they told me but I think it was about $100 for a new glass for my CD/DVD player that I cracked the glass on. I have it in a box now so not a high priority to buy.

F1nut you're not kidding about plenty of power. I tested the amp out on my SDA 1B and was shocked. I can't even get itthe Mac to clip out the protection circuit and no distortion in the highs of the 1B's. (Not maxed but very close)

Any fool that says these SDA's don't have enough bass doesn't know what their talking about. The magic of of their bass make it impossible to pinpoint the source. I had a friend over who swore I had a sub running so I had him unplug it and ran the receiver pure direct to prove it.

Safe to say sbb2112 and F1nut this Mac isn't going anywhere but to a shop to get a new lease on life.

Now to find another bigger one for the SRS and a better processor.
