Westworld

Anybody watching this new series on HBO? Not only is it a great series, but the music is incredible. Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones music composer) also composed the opening credit song for WW. He's a true artist.

What I find more intriguing is how they interject modern music in many scenes (especially scenes in the Mariposa Saloon on a player piano) to sound like old west music. It's been fun hearing something in the background and trying to see who is the first (my wife or me) to ID the song.

If you haven't seen this series yet, give it a watch. I think it's up to episode 6. It's been a great series to fill the void until GOT comes back, and (in my opinion) is almost as good.

It's in my list to checkout...

Problem is that list keeps getting longer and longer nowadays lol

Enjoying it thoroughly, I haven't paid attention to the piano but now I will - thanks for the tip!

Loved it from the beginning! One of those (rare) series where I want to watch each episode ASAP. There's a good article somewhere about the guy who generates the music scrolls (they're really real) for the player piano scenes. Looking forward to a long run...

Just bought the laserdisc (of original movie) off of eBay. Can't believe what I paid (for an LD), but I've always wanted it and the DVDs/BDs aren't really that much better because it's such an old movie.

I'm enjoying the series so far, and I also thought the opening music was reminiscent of Game of Thrones - that explains it.

I just hate waiting for new episodes. Binge watching has spoiled me.

Love the show...it has replaced Walking Dead for Sunday night viewing. You have to think at some point in time that type of "amusement park" will exist, at a steep price I would imagine.

We watched the last two episodes last night. I fell asleep here and there during the finale, so I'll need to watch it again! Actually, I might have to watch the whole season again. It's a lot to take in and figure out, and given that I typically watched most of the episodes later in the evening, I'm sure I missed a lot along the way. Love this series!

    Is it sci-fi?
Yep - basically about a 'park' for the wealthy to play with AI 'hosts' from the old west. Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris are great in it too. From IMDB:

A series inspired by the 1973 film of the same title written by Michael Crichton about a futuristic theme park populated by artificial beings.

It's on HBO, so it's definitely for mature audiences (nudity, graphic violence, sexual content, etc.). It's been a nice series to watch if you like Game of Thrones.

Oh, congratulations, I hear that can be a dicey procedure! Is it a boy or a girl?

I have to say, Westworld was one of the shows that made me realize how much I *hate* waiting the time in between episodes, never mind seasons. Can't remember for sure, but I thought I read that there was going to be a lot of time in between now and the next season for it.

I agree. The Sopranos was the worst for doing that. The last couple seasons were about 1 1/2 years apart, or more. That was the first HBO original show that was hugely popular, and I always thought they were dragging it out just to keep the subscriptions up until they found another hot show.

I think I'm going to have to watch the first season of Westworld again. I didn't realize the story was as deep and twisty until I started to read some of the online 'explanation' articles/reviews over the past few weeks when things started getting crazy. I'd like to see it again now knowing what I know now, with a different perspective.

I'm thinking the same thing: a "binge watch" may be in order for WW. The good (and bad) news is there's plenty of time to do it before the second season hits.

That's what made the movie unique as well. It looks like a Western...but there's a bunch of Sci-Fi behind it. As the series goes on, it gets more Sci-Fi.

yeah.. just like last season i'm confused from the start, but that isn't surprising as it looks like they are continuing with the back and forth timeline.

Yeah. One of the things I liked about the first 1-4 episodes of the last season was how they didn't spoon feed you anything. People that I've tried to get to watch the show gave up during the first episodes as a result. Their loss.

First ep of this season was pretty good, but yeah lots of unanswered questions.

Production value remains high, great directing and cinematography!
