I think there's a problem with this video, as it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre, although when viewed on its own merit, it does have a decent groove. However, what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies,One is even reminded of Laurie Anderson when she wore curlers. This video speaks less to the heart, and more to the ****. and other bands that bear the mantle of so-called alternative rock. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from... AAAAAHHH!!! OW!!! Whoa, what happened?

Yeah, I know what you mean -- I've seen so many videos of these older men ripping off Led Zeppelin. You'd think Page & Plant would take those poseurs to court, wouldn't you?

One of my kid's originals. Video from last year.
Don't get the point of the video, but the kids seem to dig it.

not necessarily obscure but (given the future that lay ahead of the artist) a little unsettling... and (I would opine, at any rate) very good.

Very nice! Is your daughter the singer, or is this one of her compositions?

so... I heard both of these performances last night on VT Public Radio's excellent
program All the Traditions. I thought that both were really, really dandy -- so I share them here, strictly as-is and FWIW. YMMV, no warranty express or implied, no bailment created -- et cetera, et cetera et cetera.

HAHAHAHA That's my exes favorite song! We used to play various versions in the car while driving around the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. I even proposed to her there. That would have certainly ruined the mood. :o

I was wondering if he was going to be able to pull off that staccato part at 01:37, but he pretty much nailed it. :p

So, how did I manage to go nearly two decades without:

    1) Ever having heard this song before?

    2) Knowing that Kirsty MacColl had died so tragically? :(

So -- the local host of Morning Edition here (well, across the river, in Vermont) is a fellow called Mitch Wertlieb. Mitch is OK with me because 1) he's a big Red Sox fan and 2) he has fine taste in music (and is a Deadhead of some magnitude, to boot). Oh, and he has a dog calle Fezzik (successor to the Wertlieb's previous pup, Grendel, who passed away a year or so ago).

    anyway...

He has a tendency to play interesting interstitial music -- often more or less clever commentary on the news stories on Morning Edition. But today's Halloween, so he's playing Halloween themes, with his own wry twist.

I enjoyed two of these a lot. They were both new to me recordings, and I felt moved to share them -- so here they are.

    YMMV, of course :p
Feel free to add some of your own.

When you mention Vermont Public Radio, it makes Vermont look bad. When you mention the Grateful Dead, it makes you look bad. :p
