unfortunately, we don't have basements in texas, so "man caves" are not as easy to come by.
Yes you do, instead of being called "man caves", you guys in Texas call them "border tunnels".

I'm just messin' with ya! Welcome to the forum.

  • @Hermitism that's funny. we are a little too far north for those. ive only seen one basement here in dallas and it was my cousins parents house. they made a bunch of money from ups stock working there for however long and cashed it in when retired. only had 7 foot ceilings though as they couldn't get down any deeper.

    thanks for the welcome

I’ve got a couple that you might want to try. An HK PA2400 and a Yamaha M-60 that might show you what more power will do but might not be the best pairing. I’m north on 75 from where you are. PM me if interested.

  • @Legender id definitely want to hear some other stuff, the speakers certainly arent lacking from power right now, but some people say home audio amps "sound better". im not looking for an amp to do anything except amplify the signal without coloring it

    he just seems crabby overall.

honestly, if she wants them to be spray painted pink with some elephants on them, I wouldn't mind. the fact that she agreed to let them be in the living room is a win in my book. grill cloth is easy to replace so no biggie in my book.

Contact Magnepan for the cloth. I used the black cloth on my 1.2 TL’s and it is amazing. They have a nice ivory color, and grey available as well.

  • thanks, gotta sand and finish the caps and bases still, and recover the sides, whatever glue was used to attach them is like trying to chizel off granite. i got liquid nails to reattach them, but was thinking of countersinking some magnets instead. i have a feeling white wont stay white long and trying to get the side panels back off doesnt sound appealing.

i wonder if just doing the sides in a wood veneer would change the acoustical p[properties at all?

It shouldn’t. You can pretty much make them to your preference. I had the same 2b’s and chose to redo the fabric on the sides.

  • 2nd grill done. that was pretty easy. im wondering if there are thin strong pieces of velcro i might be able to attach the sides with, no sure they are thick enough to sink a magnet into.

Nice job BTW! Agree the seam needs a bit of tightening. Or you can go for solid wood panels as I am doing.

I’m not a fan of the Joann fabric. It’s too thick and restricts the sound imho. Nice work though.

The fabric I used is quite a bit thinner than what was on there.
I think wood panels is gonna be the best way to go. The hardboard that they came with was a little warped and it’s hard to attach unless it’s a permanent bond, which I’m not ready to do.

Will most likely do an oak or something.

Get the grey Magnepan cloth they use on the 20.7 series. It is very shear, and will allow just a hint of the drivers to be seen through the cloth with the grills in place. the look is spectacular and is acoustically invisible.
