Winter Project - Basement Wiring

Well, I finished my project to finally wire my surround back speakers. During my planning, I decided to include a few add-ons to the wiring project. I included running ethernet from my office (1st floor) to my system (Sonos, Blu-ray, Prepro) in the basement and future proof with Atmos wiring for ceiling speakers. In addition, I changed the location of my side surrounds for improved HT. I knew this would not be an easy project since 3/4 of my basement is finished with the remaining a drop ceiling. Fishing wire over 50 feet of finished walls with right angles was a PITA.

Just like most home projects, the time requirement ended up longer than planned but I'm very pleased with the results. Having the wired internet for streaming significantly increased the speed. I also added an ethernet adapter with additional ports for future equipment (if needed). By changing the location of my surrounds and finally wiring the 2 back speakers (running 7.2), the HT experience is amazing in this very large room. I'll write another post on my 7.2 observations. Now that I have experienced 7.2, I'm getting the itch to hook up Atmos. However, this will require purchasing ceiling speakers and a new prepro. I have a few other upgrades on the list first, so I'll probably hold off on this for a few years..........months?

Very nice. I just did the same thing in my man cave. Moved my SDA-2B's to rear duty with the addition of some SDA SRS 2.

Awesome work. I have started looking to buy a house within a year. And one of my requirement is a media room in the basement. We haven't actually gone to the locations but just looking at the listings online we are trying to figure what kind of layout we are looking at. Now, depending on what house we end up with, I am trying to figure out whether finishing an unfinished basement or finished one will be better. Still a lot of research to do but looking at your finishing, I am feeling a little confident to run the wires if need be in a finished basement. I am going to DIY as much as possible with whatever we end up with. Thanks for the confidence booster.

    ahh very cool.
I have always found that a bluray player with a 7.1 pre out sounds much better than a optical cable or HDMI, If your BD player has the option you should give it a try.
