I never heard the PB13-Ultra and its supposed to be awesome. However, $2K can buy a lot of bass these days. Two of the new Power Sound Audio V1500s for $2K would put up number like two Ultras. Its better to use the same level matched subs when running duals.

I hear where you're coming from, but I'm also willing to get my read on and see what "other" sub manufacturer's have to offer. PSA is no slouch.

Well, SVS has been around for awhile (Since 1998) and one of the leaders in the sub-bass industry. Also, the Ultra is a $2K sub, so heck yes its a quality product.

Power Sound Audio is co-owned by Tom Vodhanel and Jim Farina. Tom is one of the previous co-founders and former head of R&D at SVS. Jim is a former SVS head engineer! http://www.powersoundaudio.com/pages/about-us
Their products have gotten great feedback....don't take my word for it...I've only read up on them. Their products are what I would buy right now if I were looking. However, I went the DIY route and will probably do the same for the next subs when I have more space.

Absolutely, without a doubt! Even at that price it's worth it! I'm also considering a pair of those subs... I was also looking at the Gotham subs, but I like these better! If I purchase some SDS SRA 1.2's, then the subs are out.
It's one or the other for me! Other wise it's ouch time from the wife!

If you're spending that kind of coin, check out the HSU Subs. You can grab a dual drive 15h Mk2 for about 2100 shipped, which will best a single PB13 ultra in sheer output and provide a more even room response.

As will going with another PC12...but the OP seems set on a "better" single sub vs. lesser dual...or subs from other makers. Seems he answered his own question.
    Can't go wrong with SVS.

I currently own 2 PB13 ultras and combined with an antimode 8033sii in a 2800cubic foot room, they kick some serious ****. I have one friend with an hsu vtf15h, another with diy's, and most recently rythmic fv15hp. All awesome subs! But what everyone seems to comment on is the high quality fit and finish of the ultras, and legendary smooth and deep base. There are subs out there where you get more bang for your buck, but in the price range svs fit, finish, and outstanding customer service trumps them all.

Well if you've already made your mind up that the $2K sub is worth it, then why ask here?

Yes, your room is not large at all and of course the Ultra would be more than enough. However, matching duals will do something that a single Ultra can't. You already have two subs in your sig so you know what I'm talking about.

Do yourself a favor and ask SVS and their outstanding customer service what they think. Those guys are bass experts.

I bought pair of PB13 Ultra's last fall to upgrade from a PB12 Plus/2. SUBSTANTIAL improvement in SQ. Fit and finish is perfection. They blend smoothly for music and come alive when you want them to. Dual subs is definitely the way to go. If you don't try the 13, you won't know what your missing. Free in home demo, what can go wrong?!

Another vote for two cheaper vs one expensive one.

Generally speaking Two $1,000 subs will outperform a single $2,000 sub in terms of even response and overall output.

I think you should just go ahead and do it. Get the PB13 or your will never be satisfied until you try it. With your size room you could probably even go with the sealed one if you wanted to for added detail and clarity.

I have used my PB13 in a 12x12 room and also a 40' x 19' room (open concept living room, dining, kitchen) and in both it is remarkable. Unbelievable output, and extremely articulate. 2 of these in a room on the larger side would be awesome.

The improvement in detail over the 12 plus/2 is remarkable. It is so much more refined and articulate. It digs deep without some of the turbulence I experienced from the 12 plus/2. Two $1,000 subs might produce 'more output' than one 13 Ultra but is it quality output? Probably adequate but definitely not superior. In my opinion, the PB13 Ultra is the sub you buy once where you don't need to always wonder if you can do better without taking out a second mortgage.

placement is key. But audyssey, antimode, sms, and others make this a much easier task.

Dual Sub is ok. for large Room probably like 20x18 or more and it's more complicated
to calibrate it vs. one Sub!!!!!!!!!

Exactly. Sub crawl to start. Put the subs in the two best spots. Use a receiver that that calibrates two subs individually.

Its all about tuning and setup. The PB13 Ultra is definitely an awesome sub, but if I was OP I would go duals and call it a day. I run the newer model PB12/plus 2 in a dual setup and they play very well paired up with the SMS-1.
