I want to get my daughter a docking station for her iPhone. What do all of you like out there? Would like to keep it under $200 if possible.

What do you want to do with it? Just charge? Connect to a home stereo (high or low-quality)? Depending on what you want to do, you could just buy a $10 cable or a $300 DAC.

I got my wife a Sony, similar to what Cathy shows, but with a 30 pin connector for her 4S. It works pretty well but if you aren't interested in charging at the same time a Bluetooth speaker is very nice.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I did not think of a Bluetooth speaker. If the unit does not have a remote that would be good to have. Any other opinions from anyone is appreciated especially those who actively listen to a docking station.

Again, what is it for? For background music in a bedroom or back porch? Do you want it to fill a large room? I take it that you do NOT want to connect it to a home theater or other sound system??

I have this one for an alarm clock: http://www.ihomeaudio.com/iP21GVC/

Its fine for waking up to or for podcasts, but I wouldn't listen to music on it.

The docking station will be used in a room approximately 10x12. I would like it to charge but connection to another device such as a receiver or television is not necessary.

So are you wanting something with a speaker built in? You may want to look at the Polk dock and see if that meets your needs. If you want something with Bluetooth the Peachtree DeepBlue is an amazing product.

Thanks assimilated but I posted that I really wanted to stay under the $200 mark. And yes speaker built in. Thanks for the options.

I have one of these that I ended up not using like I thought I would. I'll sell it cheap and you can get her something else with the money you save:)

Not a bad little unit. There are better out there, but for a 10x12 room this would do the job.

I have beat this to death the last few days and it looks like most of the units I have seen that are in the upper end as far as listening is concerned takes a lightning connector. So here is what I am looking hard at: http://fluance.com/product/Two_way_High_Performance_Wood_Speaker_Dock_Music_System_for_iPod_iPhone.eng-8.html

As other have mentioned, if you are going that high anyway I would seriously consider pushing it 25 bucks more and getting this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/I-Sonic-ES2-HD-Table-Top-Radio-iPod-Dock-Polk-Audio-/231070013164?pt=US_Digital_Clocks_Clock_Radios&hash=item35ccd896ec

Polk makes great sounding products for the price. Fluance is a much more budget product generally. But I agree it looks nice. Ideally you hear them next to each other, but i realize that's probably not going to happen. good luck!

That is a nice model it seems. By the way the look of that unit is not what got my attention but the rave reviews it got from uses and other sources. And I can get the Fluance product from eBay for $149 shipped.

This is why I love 2-Channel vintage audio..........it makes things so much more simple. However I can't get her to put a tube amp and 70lbs. speakers in her room. :-)

Thank you for the post, I appreciate it.

Funny, I was going to suggest something like that.

Before you pull the trigger, what about these? Its isn't a dock, but she could have it charging and use the headphone out to run to the speakers:
