I have never done this before so I have a question re using my Pioneer Elite as a pre with a power amplifier. When I do this, does it mean I can use the avr to control volume of the amplifier?

    Yes.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

To add, you will not lose any functionality or features from your Pioneer.

I am using a SONY ES 5300 as a pre/pro, all functions remain the same, the speakers are connected to the amp, the receiver is connected to the amp from the pre-outs on the receiver to the inputs on the amp . As far as sound fields, speaker adjustments, all remain the same from your remote to your receiver.

I have a Pio SC-37 and a Carver Grand Cinema amp. The SC-37 is used as a prepro and all functions work just as if you were using the onboard amps of the reciever. No difference, so go ahead and use your Pioneer as a prepro.

    I do this also with my SC-07, I have a D-Sonic 1000S (525wpc x 2)powering the fronts, and a Sunfire TGA5200 powering everything else. Sound is outstanding.

Well I've hooked it up and am very pleased with the results. I seem to get better separation and music seems to envelop you with the sda effect. Base seems very controlled as well.
