Just thought I'd give everyone an update after running MCAAC correctly (as per metal83's recommendation to visit the AVSForum thread about running it)...

I am now a happy camper and have no plans of leaving the Ice Club. The sound coming out of my SC-05 is phenomenal after some minor tweaking! :D

    I figured as much.

Nice Leroy. Boy this club is getting bigger by the minute.:D Enjoy.

Just got home from work early to unpack my new SC-07 ICE machine that had been delivered about an hour earlier by UPS. They didn't double box it as I expected but the box looked ok - a few scrapes but no serious dents.

I couldn't wait to hook it up. The closest speakers were my Polk Monitor 70's and 60's in the dining room. I set it on top of the stand, disconnected the speakers from the old VSX-515 and reconnected them on the ICE machine. This is the time when banana plugs are appreciated. I connected the digital audio output from my dvd player, plugged the unit in, turned it on, pressed play on the dvd and voila fantastic stereo sound. Jimmy Buffet never sounded better from those 70's. I think I'm now qualified to be a member of the ICE club.

For those familiar with the Pioneer VSX-1018 the remote with the ICE machine is very similar with the main differences being a small digital display (remember the 1014), chrome menu controls, and a sliding lid at the bottom covering the keypad. So once I found, EXT. STEREO I was set for some Bohemian Rhapsody.

I want to express my thanks again to Metal83 and this Forum for putting me on to this. I owe you a beer Metal.

Welcome to the club, enjoy that bad boy. Run MCACC and you will experience even better sound.

I am wondering something about the elite series recievers. It seems that there are several owners in here, so I'll ask you guys. There have been several theads in this forum where people are giving advice regarding recievers. One question I have for you is how you would charactorize the sound warm or bright. My reciever is bright in 2 channel mode and most in this forum state the H/K recievers are warm sounding. Where would you place the recievers you have with respect to this charactoristic?

    Thanks

With your current speaker package, there is no reason not to get the 01. The 03 is a bit nicer, a few options but they sound identical. I think they use the same exact amp. To step up you would have to pass the 03 and get the 05. This would give you a big upgrade. Not so much in sound quality as they still sound close. The 05 is a bit clearer and sounds more like seperates.

    Good luck with your purchase.

    Dan

Great help, thanks. I suspected they were at least similar in sound, but then noticed the 8 lb weight difference, and wondered if it had an upgraded amp that would account for the difference.
I am fortunate enough to live in WI, less than 2 hrs from HiFi Heaven in Green Bay. They have the best prices I have seen on these units: $449 for the 01, and $499 for the 03! Also, they have the 05 set up so I can take a good listen to the sound on the Elite.

Thanks again for the help Mantis,

Hey LeroyJr1, what did you think of HIFI Heaven? I haven't been there yet, but hope to go in a month or so. They have some great deals don't they?
Did you buy from an ad on Audiogon, or did you just go up and by from a salesperson on the floor?

I am curious because when I called them, the guy I talked to said I needed to go through the specific Audio/Videogon person who posted the ad for the amp.

Sounds like you got some great deals and are happy with your purchases, congrats!

It was really heaven. Next week he's getting the Samsung 63" plasma for $2100 and the 58" for $1700. The 58" 650 TOC inch in the stores are selling for $3000.

He also has the Pioneer Kuro projector regular $9000 for $2600.

I called and talked to Will and told him about the deal on videogon and he honored it.

For HT I think the ice amp in the Pioneer sounds great but for music I like my Onkyo better. To me the ice amps sound kind of sterile.

This is one thing I've been wondering lately. I've always heard that Class D amps aren't really the most musical...efficient and powerful, yes, but not as clean or accurate as other types of amplifiers. I definitely want to get my ears on one of these Elite's sometime.

I wish I could afford to join the ICE Club...maybe next year though. These membership dues are just out of my budget right now...lol

If I put my Onk' in the freezer can I be an honorary ICE Club member?:p
