My demon child just raped my RTi10...

So my son, being the angel that he is, decided to take a large lego and hammer it repeatedly into the top black speaker on my RTi10.

He succeeded in causing several decent cracks through the speaker.

I have no clue where to go from here as far as repairing the speaker goes...any tips/suggestions?

So when you say "top black speaker" do you mean the 6.5" speaker or the 7" speaker? Neither one looks "black" to me though...

I recall years back seeing my son with all my military trophees and plaques outdoor with hammer and screwdriver removing all the brass and other metal from them. I nearly had a hearth attack but it was too late and I simply gave up on those souvenirs and forgot about this and carried on (of course this was after giving my son a piece of my mind). My son carried on seeking for knowledge and guess what, he is been working for his city for many years now and got a permanent position few years ago and he now has the opportunity to practice his disasembling and now also built and repair and this for a very good income. I am convinced the times he upsetted me and got my blood pressure way up with his experimenting at my own expense led him were he is at now.

Now as far as your son, it is a pain he might have destroyed one of your driver but a little bit of time, little money and problem fixed. Give him a piece of your mind to let him know you are upset but afterward carry on and simply be happy and proud of your son for having the brain and willingness to learn and discover. You haven't mentioned how old he is? If he were old enough, you could involve him in the repair and if he has personal $$$ maybe get him to pay for the damages he did.

Good luck with your Dad-Son project ;)

    Cheers!

As my daughter was growing up...one thing I made sure she NEVER saw was that speaker grill covers are 'removable' until she was old enough not to hammer legos into my drivers.

But no big...call Polk CS and get a new driver.

Although I don't have any kids just yet (thank God), I do have a 10 1/2 year old black lab and sometimes I think couples should be required to raise a puppy before they attempt raising a child. It must be very difficult to temper discipline with freedom in children. The last thing I would want is to stifle the creativity and imagination of my children.

Haha, just think of that driver as an 'investment.' Perhaps one day your son will become an architect... and change his name to Art Vandelay! Until then, +1 on the grills, I prefer my TSI500s without grills but I keep them on all the time to avoid potential mishaps.

Excellent words of wisdom TK. I approve. :D

Here's a pic of the damage.

And my son is turning 3 this month...if he's lucky. And he is the one who broke one grill by pulling on the top part till it snapped in half...he was trying to get at a car he had dropped in between the grill and the speaker.

Needless to say, he's a walking disaster area.

Spare the duct tape, spoil the job!

I had a similar situation a number of years back with my car. My car was parked outside (rare occasion) and had dew all over the windows. My son was drawing pictures in the dew with his finger on the windows, which was ok. But I had to get after him when he started drawing on the paint as it was a little dirty and I didn't want it to scratch. Later i drove to work and noticed scratches all down both sides of the car:mad:. I knew at once it was from his belt buckle. I saw red! Then I saw the words dried on the side window, "I Love You Daddy". Life suddenly fell into perspective. Maybe I could buff them out but I didn’t.

The words washed away with the next rain but the scratches remained to remind me, not of the anger of the moment, but of the joy of my son's love.

About a year later my car was totaled. As I removed the contents from the car to send it off to the junk yard my eye fell upon the scratches. I was saddened that I wouldn't have those scratches to look at anymore. ... But, I still have my son's love.

Interesting...too bad the speaker is worth more than your car AND my child combined!!!!! (obviously joking, but yeah...i'm still a bit peeved about it).

My hearing is steadily getting worse, and my HT is really the only place I have where I'm not constantly reminded of my worsening hearing.

this is good level-headed advice. Personally I would be shocked and mad when I initally saw the damage, but I would quickly cool off since the damage is easily repariable. I'm guessing the replacement driver won't be too expensive.

You may want to consider leaving the grills on your speakers when your child is playing around them.

You could capitalize on the event and tell your wife that the speakers are a total loss as they are a matched set and need to be replaced (with an upgrade of course).

Not that I would ever do such a thing, but some might.

    Hey Ryan,
I just heard back from the CL seller and he said he would be willing to ship if you bought at least two drivers (remember he has both the Mid-range and bass drivers) Shipping is on you. Still a pretty good deal at $20+ each.

Have you checked with Polk CS regarding $ from them?

PM me if you are interested and I will forward you his email ect.
