I enjoy making things from cut down trees and metallic objects in my shop, collect and use things that are really rapidly loud, long handheld pointy things from a disagreement we had back in the 1860's, collecting items from the past and girl watching among other things.

    Hey Tim
Bev's mom (affectionately referred to as "granny") found a wicked cool arrow head up on their mountain. It almost looks like it's emerald. It's green, and translucent---it's very small, maybe just a 1/2" long, and the shape is perfect. Do you know anything about this type of arrow head? They live in Lakeview, Oregon--and that's where the arrow head was found...

Hmmm...Many points from that area are Obsidion, which it is obviously not if it is green. Could be maybe Agate or Jasper...I think Chalcedony has variations of green as well. I am thinking more like a translucent Jasper, which would be beautiful. Have you held it up to a light bulb?

I think Lakeview falls into the Great Basin area which had a lot of activity. Being only a half inch long, my first thought would be a birdpoint. Used for small game and "birds". If so, this would probably put it into the Great Basin Archaic period...from a couple hundred years ago to about 4000 years ago. Probably later in that period, maybe 500-1000 yrs old. Could be older...its style and technique would need to be compared with other specimens.

Cars/racing is my other main hobby.

Part of the reason why i haven't been on here much the last couple days.

I had about $1000 worth of parts stolen off my MX6, so i've been frantically trying to find replacements.

But hey.... at least i'll have lots of stuff for the "what's your newest toy" thread.

I had a hobby in woodworking before I broke my heel and started this audio journey all over again.:D

I also collect chess sets and boards. I was getting ready to start making boards when I broke my heel. I still haven't made one in 9 yrs. now..

I still look for sets at thrift stores and flea markets while I'm out looking for stereos and speakers.

This HDMI thing is putting alot of fine $$$ receivers on the market at yard sales for a song. People think they don't do digital if they don't have a HDMI plug and nobody is telling them differently at the stereo stores either I guess.
That's good for us who like bargains.:p
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I'll see if Granny can snap a pic for me, I should have photographed it when we were there for Christmas. It's pretty tiny, but perfectly formed (no splits, breaks anything--it's easily recognizeable as a "point"). She found it up on the hill when Bud was falling timber one day. It's definitely green, and translucent---it looks very much like emerald, but not quite that clear.

I took up playing the bass (the instrument, not the fish) about 2 years ago, currently in a band, nothing serious.

I was taking Krav maga for about 3 years but am on a haitus right now.

now I just go to the gym to lift and do cardio. have been into spinning classes lately, I like them for some reason. great workout and its hard to get bored when a hot hardbody chick is screaming at you to go faster. I have a feeling this will lead to me mountain biking again, as I used to love doing that in my younger and stupider days.

I can finally take my Mustang out since the weather is nicer up here, so that will be a hobby until it gets cold again.

actually ex lax isnt considerred hazardous. now if you laced it with arsenic....you would then have a legal problem.

maybe I like ex lax brownies to loosen stuff up? someone else eats it = there fault.

besides, ex lax tainting = hard to prove.....arsenic? not so much.

Ken, you should ride up to my place one weekend. I do some metal detecting from time to time. There is a old civil war grisk mill not far away, that is NOT on Corp land. Found a few goodies there. Plus an old civil war stockade, Fort Hood. And we find a few arrow heads around the lake shore from time to time. My father-in-law found a spear point last summer. While digging a hole in his yard to plant a dogwood tree!

Also there is a Revolutionary War fort in what was the town of Lisbon, GA. Most of the city was covered up when they backed the water up in the lake for the damn. :(

I'd bet on agate. I used to find a lot of green agate on agate beach of all places. Used to find a lot of pyrite there too.

You are probably right that it is Agate. Jasper isn't really translucent unless it is very thin, it is more opaque. I am not real familiar with Jasper and Agate.

Around here it is mostly Flint and Chert. I live very close, maybe a half hour away, from a place called Flint Ridge. It is a several mile long vein of flint that is dotted with a couple hundred ancient quarries and workshop sites. The old dudes used to come here and quarry their flint and then fashion them into smaller blanks for transport home and final finishing. You can't pick up flint inside the park, but in the surrounding countryside you can find huge and beautiful pieces. Lots of reds, greens, and blues.

Run live sound and make six figures a year. My wife calls it my hobby but it pays more bills than she does as a dental tech, and only tour 6 to 7 months a year and get paid for 12 months, but what I am really in to is raising bucking bulls for all the rodeos around Oklahoma and Texas, and if you think high end audio cost big bucks ,dont get in the bull program, Feed, vet bills, transportation, and never turn your back on most of them, they for the most part dont care for humans, feeding them or not they can get on you fast and most will park on you if they get the chance. but they are putting my son threw collage.
