Congrats on the severance pay. I was worried they would shaft you out of something like that.

    Good Luck

Please check into how that severance pay can be worked into your unemployment. There was a woman who was laid off and recieved a check like that and didn't file for benafits until that money was close to gone and now can't get a claim started because she was not employed for X-amount of time. So please look into that with a U.C. officer. I would think you could claim that as your last pay check and then have your waiting week after that.
If you don't mind me asking what did you do?

I'm going to call Unemployment the day after my last day to get the ball rolling for unemployment.

I was an Underwriting Assistant. Which boils down to reviewing the applications & making sure that everything is in order with them, then issuing them once underwriting is complete.

With that Cath you should have no problems finding a job with most any insurance company especially medical or pharmacy related companies.

You got a year's worth of severance?! That's awesome! Did you have any banked vacation or anything they are paying out too? That big cushion plus the UE really helps out. Takes some of the pressure and stress off. All the prayers paid off in that respect!

Oh and don't slack on my PM. My company often hires people who get let go from companies we support and we then assign them to the accounts of the companies that let them go because of the experience. You're an underwriter, you know the processes inside and out and you're the kind of person we look for. Go and apply, they pay pretty well too. Probably better than the job you just lost. If you do apply, I'll send you my info. I can't be a professional reference but I can be a personal reference and if you know someone on the inside, it helps.

There are a lot of insurance companies in the East coast and several companies in Boston. With 28 years of underwriting experience, you won't have much problem to find another underwriting job. I think the insurance industry will pick up within a year.

I worked in the Underwriting dept, but I am NOT an underwriter. I just assist them. Besides that, 6 of the underwriters got dumped as well!

Sorry to hear about that, Cathy. I'm sure they weren't running in the red, greed is probably the only factor here.

Any way, with 28 years you will have no problems. You oughta just take a little break, enjoy yourself for a little while. Take some time and shop around for your next position, you are an expert in your field and would be an asset to anyone.

Just a bump in the road...Enjoy yourself a little bit...
