I got laid off this morning. Been with the company for 28 year & now I'm out the door about to discover the wonderful joys of unemployment.

This sucks big time.

    Sincerest condolences.
I'd recommend getting down to the Home Depot ASAP. It's right there where the S.E. xpressway dumps into RTE. 128. I believe there's a Red line stop right next to it, provided there's one near you.
If not, I'm sure one of the buses would get you close.
    Good luck.

Sorry to hear that Cathy.......been there and done that a few times in the past 5 years. No one is safe really. Try not to stress and just do whatever you can to find employment. In my close circle of friends/family I know a lot of people out of work. Things have to turn around soon.

This is a great oportunity to get ahead! You have a new job now, moving up. Most people in this position find themselves better off shortly afterwards if they look at it in the right way.

Well, on the bright side, Obama has extended unemployment so much that those who have yet to claim unemployment can collect for almost 2 years. Granted, it's not much compared to what you were making but it does help. You can also do partial unemployment where you get a part time job and you can still collect unemployment to help with the bills.

Very sorry to hear this Cathy. Nearly 30 yrs of loyal service shows off the commendable diligence and character you have shown your employer in that span of time. The same character and class you have shown here in my short time at Club Polk, tells me your in the drivers seat for future employment, no doubt! This is only temporary and does indeed suck, but chin up Cathy, a person like you "can only go up!" :) Take care, my best to you.

Sorry about your situation. Hope thing will turn out good for you soon.

My boss (the CEO) was let go early in January. Three days later, the company was merging with another conpany. I was then informed by the acting manager that the new company would not need my services. She and I agreed that my last day would be March 31. In exchange for that, I would document all my works, complete several new projects, and transfer all knowledge to them. The hard part for me was not letting my coworkers know about my planned departure. It was a release when the news was released to all employees last Friday. I has been looking for work and just realize that it is hard out there.

    Sorry for hijacking your threat.

Hey, a few tips as I was also a long time employee (20 yrs) who got ousted.

Interview anywhere, even if you are not interested in the job or not really qualified. The first few interviews I did I really sucked at. One was so bad they even told me I sucked at it. Never make a job you really want one of your first.

Put on your resume that you are an audiophile. A friend told me this and I did it. Whenever an interview starts to get slow they ask about things like that. It can turn the whole thing around when they hear you talking about something that excites you. One of the high ups here noticed it on mine and we talked quite a bit about it. (Hmmm... a guy I can relate to, I'm sure he was thinking).

If you want someone to check out your resume feel free to send it. I took a class on writing them and have looked at tons.

Sorry to hear it Cathy. Seems like it is everywhere out there. MadMax offered some good advice on the resume/interview scheme. Just remember that is not your fault, you are just as good as you have always been.

    P.S.
In your interviews, be sure to ask for a minimum of $200 per/hr. ;)

That's crap, walk right back in there demand they fire the VP instead of you, it would save the company a lot money. At least you will be able to collect unenjoyment. Best of luck to you, I know you'll be fine.
