Got my 1065 a couple of days ago & set it up last night. I had taken my onkyo tx ds595 out of my rack & a friend let me use a Denon 3802 until the 1065 came in. The 3802 sounded better thatn the onkyo 595, it had a wider soundstage & mids wernt squished together like the 595. I thaught that this was a great reciver & sounded noticably better than my 595. Than my Rotel RSX 1065 came in! I got it into the rack last night & started setting it up. Did a quick setup & while testing the inputs I put in Harry potter to check the inputs. I was supprised to hear more detail from the dvd. During one of the scenes one of the owels was making a noise that I never heard. I stopped & replayed it twice just to be sure that is what I heard & yup it was a noise from the owel. I never heard that before & I have watched the same movie with the 595 & the 3802. I havnt watched a full movie yet but from what I have tested, Harry Potter, Behind enemy Lines, Monsters Inc. they all sounded much much cleaner! I played a few Jazz CD's & a couple of my wifes CD's & the difference is very noticable! I read a post here that said somthing like "the the clouds parted the sun shined & the birds began to sing) or somthing like that, that was my impression. I guess I can say it was like listening to my LSi'S while they were still in their shiping box & with the RSX 1065 it is like the boxes were removed. Dont get me wrong the LSiS sounded good with Onkyo 595 & the Denon 3803 but after hearing them with the Rotel huge difference. Id like to thank the other Polk club members who helped me decide which reciver to buy. I'm a beliver the LSiS need power to make them truly sing. I got alot more setting up & adjustments to make before Ill be happy. Id wish the setup could have been done on the face of the receiver instead of the display but I guess you cant have everything! Ill post later once I get a chance to really listen! Thanks for all the advice!

    ezc,
congrats, bud! you'll have a great time setting them up. Make sure you go to Club Rotel for the latest firmware and if you don't already has it, how to build an upgrade cable (its on Andrew Pratt's homepage)...

ezc, I played the first 10 minutes or so of **** three times over because I couldn't believe my ears. The addition of the RSP 1066 was a MAJOR upgrade over the H/K I was using as a pre/pro. You are correct...the other forum members certainly did steer us in the right direction.

Again thanks for the advice! I will check out club rotel once I get the reciever set up! So far its set up so I can play the fm radio, dvd, & cds but I have not got to all the settings & made the adjustments Id like to make. But from what I heard so far Im very pleased! It only gets better from here! Great members Great advice! One question how much room do I need for cooling? This monster generates some heat. I have about 2.5" of open space above & the sides are almost all open. I have the rec. on a boltz rack so the rear & sides are mostly open. Do I need more room on the top?

    ezc,
yes, 1065 gets *warm* pretty good, typical recommendation would be around 6" open space on top, you can tested out, have it running for about 1 movie length, and if you feel the shelf above to get warm, then it might not be enough. I have mine on the very top shelf above the rack, so air is moving freely. I think if you increase is to around 4" to 5", and with some air circulation on the sides, you should be fine.

    Greg,
don't you get the RR-969 remote with your 1066? Mine pretty much replace all remotes for the other gears with no problem (having the learning feature and all). This is in reference to Dan's suggestion about the Pronto. Don't get me wrong, Pronto is the king of universal remote, but it costs some serious coins too.

ezc, congrats and welcome to the Rotel family. She's a beauty isn't she? Did you get the 200Mhz HDTV video upgrade like we talked about earlier? Also, what color did you pick up?

As for the ventilation question, Rotel's suggestion is 4" of space above the AVR. I'm running my RSX-1055 w/3" of space above it and I think it will be fine. As for the remote, I thought the newer units from Rotel (1055, 1065, & 1066) all shipped with the RR-1050?

Very Welcome guys.Rotel is a very solid product and will make the Lsi series sing. It's a very good match in my opnion.

As you can hear, lower quality recevier just don't have the juice to run Lsi.It's a waste of a speaker when using such products.Rotel cuts the market wide open with there cost to performance ratio......Man I'm getting all warm and fuzzy inside.
    I love Rotel

This is the best I could find....
    RR1050.jpg

From the mouth of Mike Sheehan (Rotel Customer Service):

...The concerns about the remote control for the 1066 have been addressed with the new RR 1050 remote which will be shipping with RSP 1098 and the most recent RSP 1066 units. This remote is based upon the current RR 969 chassis, but locates the input selection buttons on the top 2 rows of buttons used for device selection, as well as moving the macro button to the upper section of the remote and providing discrete power on and off commands on the remote. DSP selection, while still on the smaller buttons beneath the drawer, offers both the surround mode toggle button and discrete DSP access for Pro Logic II Cinema + Music, 2, 5, and 7 channel stereo modes.

    Best Regards,

thanks for posting the pic, so I guess, physically it's the same. I agree, location of input under the flap is a pain in the butt..

Forget about that remote, look into Philips Pronto tsu3000.It's new,it's nice and well worth the cost as you can have it for the rest of your audio life............if you choose. It will control anything IR,unlike the Rotel remote which is limited.....

    ezc,
what would really be cool is if you could do the setup on a LCD built into the remote. And yea some pics are in order.

Will check on the Pronto but don't think I really need it. Hard not to take advice from Mantis however. Like Polkatese I should be able to get by with the Rotel remote.

    Mantis,
Do you have any experience with Harmony Remotes? My local Rotel dealer will start carrying them and I've looked through their website and was just floored with ease of use and programability.

    Thanks All!
Had sunday morning to setup the 1065, darn not enough time due to my moms mothers day lunch & my wifes mom Mom day Dinner! I did get to set up most of the settings in with the different input / signals present. I havnt adjusted the delay yet, still havnt had time to play with it. Tony got the 200Mhz HDTV video upgrade in it. I also got the new remote the rr-1050 remote with the reciver. I spent most of sat night & part of sunday morinig setting up the remote. I think I got all settings in the 1050 remote, I can control all my equipment with the 1050 remote. I got the silver front! I liked the all black but all my new monster power products HTPS 7000 sig ser & the AVS 2000 sig ser has a sliver front & after looking at the sliver face for a few days I kinda like it! I got the sliver 1065 to match & it looks great. I have not taken any pics of my rack with the rec. yet. Ill take some probably tomorow morinig. I just ordered a set of 14" posts for my equipment rack, not enough room above the reciver ( only got about 2.5") the top shelf starts to get warm. I temp. put 2 computer fans in the back blowing air over the rec. to get the heat out till the side & back posts come in. Im glad I got a Bolts equip rack easy to reconfigure & the company is pretty good! They will sell me the side & back posts instead of making me buy another shelf with the taller posts. With the taller posts I should have about 6" - 7" clearence on the top. This should be enough room for cooling. Again the 1065 sounds awsome, I havnt tried more expensive recivers or seperates but I do know it makes my LSiS sing clearer & truer than my onkyo 595 & a friends Denon 3802 I think Price Point for the Rotel is awsome.

    Greg,
When I bought mine, I know that item has been sitting in my dealer warehouse for a good 2 months or more, so when it gets to me, is not exactly hot from the oven. That same explanation can be used on why you get the old remote. One that I can think of, in order to avoid this kind of BS, is to find high-volume dealers (I learned this mistake, so when I got my B&K, I insist on having the latest shipment, latest firmware) My Rotel dealer pushed more Integra than Rotel, so his Rotel stock is very limited, so is their discount. Other than that, I am content...

    ezc,
pics...we need pics! congrats again, looks like you have become a silver hoarder like me :lol:

No I don't have any experience with that remote.Looks like a nice cheap remote though.

I do Elan Via,Philips Pronto all of them B&K's new 10.2 which is the mx700,which is a fantastic remote...

    Hey polkatese,
you should program your 10.2,it's a ton better then the rotel remote.

polkatese, havnt had the time yet. Still need to make a cable. I had a cable that came with the 1065. I havnt looked at it yet, I know it was yellow. Dose rotel include a upgrade cable now? My unit came directly from a rotel dealer who ordered it fo me. Did the pics work? I dont think so. Still trying to figure out how to post pics on the site.

Sounds like you may have gotten the upgrade cable for free. I know Rotel was shipping the cable with the newer units. If it has a RJ45/RJ11 connector on one end and a RS232 connector on the other, you're set to go. All you need to do is download the software off the net, get some instructions and flash. To check your current version of the firmware, hold the mute button down on the remote until something like v 2,2,2 020509 shows up on the display.

Tony Im almost sure one end of the cable is a RJ11/ RJ45. I will go home tonight & check! Cant waqit just 3 more hrs of work. How big are the upgrade files? & are they upgraded often? One question I have is if I mess up on the upgrade or if the connection is lost, will the reciver die? & if so will I need to send it back? I repair Nokia phones & upon flashing the firmwear if a connection is lost the phone is dead & needs to be sent back for be revived. I dont want to kill a new reciver.

one more question. I watch a movie with the 1065 vol. set to around 40 on the display. All my other recivers I had the setting never had to be set that high. I know every manufacture settings are different but my setting at 40 sound about right? Or do I need to do more adjustments?
