the upgrade files are about 200-300 KB and currently the use of hyperterminal is the software of choice for the upgrade. Upgrade takes 15-20 minutes. Definately a nail biter.....
I've read about some people **** up during the upload by using a laptop and forgetting to plug it in/or disabling the auto shutdown feature causing the laptop to shutdown in the middle of the install. Fortunately, Rotel was smart and made the firmware seperated into two parts, the boot area and the actual area a user can flash. You can't (from what I've read in forums) erase the boot area, so if the upload goes belly up, you just start from the beginning again w/o a need to send the unit back to Rotel.Damn....8 lines...I've gotta put my sig on a diet now.... -
ezc,
if your connection lost/frozen, just repeat the process again, no, you don't have to send them back. If at the end of the upgrade you don't get a checksum ok message, then better repeat the process. One thing that I learned, make sure you disabled screen saver during the upload, since sometimes it interferes with the upload (on my Windows XP at least) and if it's laptop, have the system connected on power, since the power saver will also interrupt the process.
As far as volume level, 40 is about normal, I listen mostly between 40 and 50 on the LSi9. On some kid's Disney DVD, I get to 60. You're fine with 40.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
so, Tony beats me to it, please do not adjust your system, there is no echo here...I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

The volume on my 1055 goes up to 90 MAX and I have the AVR calibrated to 75 dB using my S&V DVD at a Rotel setting of 65 for DD, and 60 for DTS. Then again my system is only 75WPC so I'm not sure how that scale fits into the 1065.Damn....8 lines...I've gotta put my sig on a diet now....

yeah, you're talkin' about Ruben. He is good....How do you know your 1055 goes to level 90? just curiousI am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

part of my orginal review, i do that to test THD. usually i take the cd out of the cd player, then put the source to the cd player and crank up the volume. I try to listen to the point where there is a faint, but constant HISS...a good AVR should have little to no audible hiss at this high of a level. My old Onkyo would sound like a snake by the time I hit 80 and it went up to 100!Damn....8 lines...I've gotta put my sig on a diet now....

Thanks for the info! Just 1.5 hrs of work left! cant wait to get home & mess around with the reciver! Just like a little kid wanting to go home & play with that new toy!

polkatese Just got home & checked my firmwear version, & its 1.5.5_0212909 the next tweak or upgrade will be the software upgrade. Checked the cable that came with the 1065, Yes it is the upgrade cable. There is no mention anywear in the instructions or packaging but its here along with banana plugs for the front mains & rears 5 pairs. I got the 2.23 software & need to install it as soon as I have some tine. Darn my Mits 55819 pictures is squed. The pic is tilted to the right. my warranty ends in 4 days & the service tech can only come tomorrow at 3 pm, I guess I close the store to meet him! Got to get this repaired! A novie in 23.5 mode or watching cnn with the ticke tape goes uphill & its noticible. I measured .5 inch differecnce . The top left is .5 inch higher than the top right the bottem left is .5 highrt than the bottem right. The picture is tilted! Got to get this done under warranty! Man the 1065 sounds great! Im listening to the monster cable Jazz cd it never sounded this good! Thanks all for the advice! This is the best forums ive been on!

Hey ezc, the AVS2000 and HTPS7000 are on my list of eventual pickups. I really dig the SS look, but in the picture it looks like the displays are different shades of blue. Is that the case or is it just the picture?
-
ezc,
did you run the component cable through the Rotel before it goes to the mits?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
ezc,
DO NOT update your 1065 with firmware release 2.23! Your unit belongs to a different firmware release level. For your information, I am attaching a release level information. Emailed Mike Sheehan at Equity Audio for the latest firmware in the series.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
-
I am just hoping that it isn't too late...the release level can be confusing with the way Rotel has it sequenced. The 1.XX series are actually newer batches compared to the 2.XX series, and his firmware is only a few months old 12/9/02, don't want him to think that his version is way behind...I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
-
What I don't understand is why the firmware software version counts down? I thought the latest was v 1.4.9 that was released in March 2003. How can a release from December 2002 be a higher version number....FUBAR man FUBAR... or is it because it's a 1065 and I'm referencing firmware from the 1055 and 1066....Damn....8 lines...I've gotta put my sig on a diet now....
-
Tony, you've got it! 1065 firmware is 2 levels down on the 2.XX series. For instance, the latest 1055/1066 is 2.25, 1065 latest is 2.23I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

ezc - Awesome set-up, you should be proud.Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me

fireshoes the Monster power avs 2000 & the htps 7000 the blue lcd display is the same or very close I think I had the Htps contrast turned down. One thing I dont like on the htps 7000 is the display dosnt shut down when the unit is turned off. The avs 2000's lcd shuts down when its powered off. Since adding the two pic & sound quality is noticibaly better! ]

polkatese Thanks for the heads up!!! I have not tried yet! I need to do more reading & get more info before trying. Thanks again for the info! Where do I go to get the latest firmwear info? Is there a page on Rotels website? I couldnt find one. Got some info from the Club Rotel website & got instructions from andrew pratts site too. I need to print them out & read it . I dont have my component cables running throught the 1065, It goes from the player direct to the TV.

Andrew has been the de facto information minister for Rotel firmware. Since he owns 1055, he's been very up-to-date on that unit update. I've been sending him information for the 1065 that I've get directly from Mike Sheehan at Equity Audio (the US distributor/importer for Rotel and B&W). But, my unit is older than yours, hence the 2.XX series firmware. There is a Sweden Rotel support page with all the latest firmware, but none in the US. The best bet is to contact Mike directly (msheehan@equityaudio.com) for the latest update. Do let him know your unit S/N so he can put 'em on their database. He is very good in responding promptly too.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Thanks for the info! Ill try e-mailing Mike later today!

polkatese thanks for Mikes e-mail address. He sent me the newest software & ill upgrade later this weekend! I finally got the 14" side & rear posts for my Boltz rack. Now the heat can escape quick enough without heating the upper shelf. Has anyone made a upgrade cable long I mean long like 40'? I want to run a long legnth to my desk to control the reciver with my laptop. I need to stand up & move closer to the rack for the remote to work, If the phone rings its a scramble to get up move closer to the rack turn the vol down & answer the phone. Id like to beable to hit the mute button in the laptop program. Is there a limit to how long the cable can be? I don think so but I want to be sure before building somthing that long & finding out it dosnt work beacuse its too long. Ive had my reciver about 2 weeks now & Im totaly happy! Before joining the Club Polk & reading the info in the forums I had not heard much of Rotel. But after reading what other club members had to say about Rotel recivers I had to look into it more. I was almost ready to pull the trigger & buy onkyo txds 797 or if I could have saved enough I wanted the 989 version 2. Im glad I waited & got the Rotel! It has much more power than I currently need & all the basic functions that I want. Music through the Rotel is much smoother even at higher vol levels, the sond stage has opened up & now it seams that the music comes from all over the room, not as directional. Movies which are my favorite have much more impact! There are sound effects that I didnt hear when using my Onk reciver too!

ezc,
great to hear that you dig the 1065! I just finished upgrading all the power cords for my gears, went 10 gauges all the way! we'll see the results in a couple weeks burn-in. Those marinco IEC and hospital grades do look great!
I don't see why can't upgrade to a longer upgrade cable. I take it you saw the DIY instructions on Andrew's website. The ony thing that I would change is the wire size. I would go with a 16 gauge cables, but that's just me. I would experiment first, though, 40' is a long run, and not quite sure if there is going to be an issue with the limitation of hyperterminal spec....I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
polkatese
I want to make a long cable not for upgrading software but to use for the Rotel Controll program. I finally upgrades my software over the weekensd & it went well. No problems at all. The cable supplied by Rotel is great, especially since I didnt have to make one right away! -
ezc,
Good to hear that everything went smoothly! The control cable should be fine, I don't see any reason for it to not working. Btw, so how much space do you have above the 1065 now? Your rack looks great!I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
how do you like the monster power? i have the 3500 but i got that befor i got all my good gear so i dont nitice of it made a diferance.
-
30-40 feet shouldn't be a problem. Just use a quality cable like a CAT 3, 5, or 5e. I'm using 5e. Attached is a pict of my 15 ft cable I made with my RJ45 crimper and a DB9 female crimp on adapter w/a metal housing sheild from RadioShack. Total cost for the cable was about $4 (considering I had the cable and RJ45 at the house already.)Damn....8 lines...I've gotta put my sig on a diet now....
-
polkatese I have about 7" now above the reciver, & the shelf above still gets slightly warm. Im happy with the spacing now & the reciver seems to have enough room to breath. Ill post a pic as soon as I get the pics into my web site.
Tony Im going to make a cable from cat 5 that I got at the shop. This cable may make it easier for me to adj the reciver when Im not in IR range.
goingganzo I like the Monster Power products. For the price point they are hard to beat. My blacks are backer the noise floor is (I feel) at the lowest it could be. My AC voltage can be as low as 110 volts and as high as 125 volts. With only the HTPS 7000 I noticed the voltage changes from 110 - 125. I never thaught I had a voltage problem but My home does. With the AVS 2000 SS my output voltage is between 119 - 121 steadly. The HTPS 7000 SS is also great. again the blacks are blacker & sound & pic is cleaner & sharper. Great product for the price.
