I wish I did have the time, and I thought I did, until the other night when I found out my 3 year old doesn't like listening to loud test tones for hours on end.

I got rid of the null when I moved my sub to the center of my longest wall without an opening to it. I finally tried the sub at the LP and it worked.

I still would really like to learn REW, but I think that might have to wait until my little boy gets a few years older and my wife is out of school.

Not for nothing, but your Denon 1909 has Audyssey MultEQ XT, which should do a pretty good job of EQ'ing your SVS (though not with the higher resolution that the standalone SVS unit does). Just turn your subsonic filter off on the subwoofer before you run Audyssey, do all available positions, then re-enable the subsonic filter. The slope of the filter causes Audyssey to boost deep bass, whereas running it without the filter gives Audyssey an idea of the sub's actual -3dB point, then the filter can do what it's supposed to post-Audyssey.

For the PA microPro 4000 and 1000, is there a subsonic filter switch/tuner?

I understand. I invested a lot of time learning REW and I was using 1 true sub and 2 mid-bass modules. It helped me finally get an SVS PB13.

REW allowed me to EQ the 13 using just the one filter built into the sub, luckly that is all I needed or I would have kept the BFD which is a great product. Since my sub was already EQed and when I run Audessy my sub and mains are matched perfectly. That was over a year ago and have not had or wanted to touch my sub settings.

Before it was daily and driving me nuts.

Good luck and protect the little guys hearing above all else in audio.

No. The subsonic filters are likely found on your pre.

I ended up getting the SMS-1. It came today and I got my sub as falt as possible, The largest dip or peak from 15hz to 80 hz is only 2 or 3 db. It's sounds great with HT, but it doesn't sound as good as it did before with music.

I plugged in the SMS-1 one and got everything flat, but I did it after running audyssey.
Should I turn off audyssey, and run manual eq, do the SMS-1, and after I get everything straightened out, then run audyssey.

One thing that was weird was that I had to lower my filters in the 65hzand above range to get a boost. If I tried and boost at that frequency it actually lowered my db. everything worked in reverse at those frequencies.

I read the outlaw audio manual, and pretty much followed it to a T. Any advice anyone has would be great. And if anyone knows an easy way to get a house curve without having to move all the filters, that would also help me a bunch.

Audyssey should be ran by itself, just as the SMS-1. Try it with just the SMS-1 and see how your music takes form.

You don't ever want to double up on the active crossovers. That leads to bad ju-ju...

I think I've learned something. A flat sub sounds very bad, or I guess I should say, it does not sound good to me. I need to just run audyseyy and help out the curve it sets a little with my SMS-1. I'm going to need a quite house for that though, and with a 3 year old boy in the house, that is very hard to come by.

I really think I jumped the gun on the SMS-1, and really didn't need it. I guess I'll find out tonight when he is asleep, if not I'm going to take him to daycare for a few hours tomorrow and have the house to myself and give it a go.

I really think there might be a very slightly used SMS-1 in the for sale section by the end of the weekend.

Are you setting up just the sub or the mains and the sub to the room?

While I'm doing the SMS-1 I have the mains on and have them crossed at 80 and the sub at 80. I've tried different crossover points, but they seem to make no difference. So far just running audyseyy without The sms-1 sounds the best.

I run the SMS-1 with the receiver on manual eq, and I can get an lmaost perfectly flat graph all the way acrossed. Then I play some music and the sub is very, very low. I kind of assume that's how it's suppose to be.

When I run audyseyy without the SMS-1 anywhere involved I get about a 16db curve to 100hz and it's sounds great. Really all I wanted to do with the SMS-1 was tame a 50hz peak and try and boost a 70 hz dip. When I do that though, everything sounds awful. It's just to flat.

I read at Home theater shack on how to determine your house curve. Hopefully I can get some time tomorrow, to try and figure that out. Really though I think audeseyy by itself was doing alot better job then I thought.

Nice flat graphs look really cool and all on the screen, but they just sound exactly what their called, flat.

I think I'm going to take it to a buddies house saturday also. He doesn't have any kind of self calibrating EQ on his AVR. The SMS-1 could probably really help him out. Hopefully it sounds great on his system and he hands me about 350$. I would love to put that into another part of my system after seeing how well my AVR did everything without any help. Maybe another set of FXI's to complete my speakers.

I guess that sometimes learning a new hobby might end up costing some money you never needed to spend.
Who knows though, maybe once I get the house to myself, I can play some test tones, and really figure out where everything needs to be.

After more, and more testing. Audyseyy does as good of a job without the sms-1.

    final verdict. I wasted 350$
If I wouldn't have been able to move the sub to where it is now, The SMS-1 would have helped me a bunch, but I seem to have found a sweet spot, and the only problem was a big 50 hz spike that I took care of with the subs PEQ.

So anyone looking for a week old SMS-1 may be able to get one if my buddy doesn't want it. He doesn't have audyseyy, so it would really help him out, but I don't know if he'll be willing to shell out any cash for it.
