You know it's bad when the snow plows are pulled off the roads... Never heard of that before.

Lost electrical power at 5:20 PM and it just came back on. The wind is blowing so hard that my house temperature dropped from 68 to 53 degrees in that time. I hope the power stays up.

I'll meet you in Kansas! They got some good barbecue out there! I'm more into the wet and not the dry rub stuff. I will admit the dry rub is very good!:DCarl -

The local power outage numbers tell me I was very very lucky since we did not lose power. I was waiting for it overnight, I had the heat up a little higher just in case. I'm still not discounting the possibility since there are still some high winds today.
I am still highly considering getting a portable generator, either 6800 or 8000 running watts, but I might just skip that (since I would still have to find a place to store it) and put that $900/$1300 into an installed standby generator that runs on Nat. Gas. with the transfer switches and all that. It would be so much more convenient and then sotrms and such would be so much less stressful wondering if we'll lose power or not.
Its funny when you think about it--53 is pretty darn cold in a house--but if it were 53 outside that would be nice and warm (relatively), no jacket required kinda weather.
Sorry you lost power Joe, I'm glad to hear you're back up.____________________

Yesterday it would have been worthless to have started on the snowthrowing, so I at least started to clear off the deck since I was worried about there being too much weight--That's the last thing I need is my deck ripping the back of my house off. Between the two storms, there had to be close to over 2' of snow on there in parts, with the first storms having partially melted and compacted (heavier). I was going to use the snow thrower, but then I realized I wouldn't be able to get it back through the house without getting snow all over the place so I shoveled--ugh!
A couple pics from yesterday:
I don't think I'm using these stairs for awhile--unless I make a slide out of it--hmmmm
Its funny how deceptive the snow makes things. My grill looked much bigger, until I cut some of the snow off.
Before I was even done there was already an inch down where I already cleared.
I wonder how much weight this thing can bear?

People across the street still have no power since 5:20 PM last night. We neighbors are taking the kids in to keep them warm. One family, the parents went to Florida leaving the five kids in the care of their 22 year old. Another family is sitting by their pot belly stove to keep warm. The father was out all night digging up some fire wood in serveral places.
I don't understand how this side of the street has power but the other still doesn't. It's scary as we east coasters are not used to these kinds of snow emergencies one after the other. We're actually lucky, IIRC we had two nor'eastern storms in Novemeber that were just rain. I think we have another coming on Monday. -
Dropped a yard stick on the front lawn today. It registered a tad over 33 inches deep.
The snow has been melting all day today though. I think we lost a good 6 inches from yesterday's snowfall and the 25+ inches from last weekend lost a good chunk of depth too.
I have a bay window that is about 4.5 feet off the ground and last night, when the snow finally stopped, it was about a foot below the sill.
The piles next to the driveways are between 6 and 7 feet tall.
Crazy.
Haven't had a snow like this in a while. Can't say I really mind it either. Call me nuts but I think it's cool when it snows. Just wish I had a fireplace.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
