Is no fun.

Ive been looking for 2 weeks, looking at local ads, going to BB and CompUSA, Walmart, Target looking online reading feedback, Cnet reviews etc...

So i think i have it Narrowed down to either a Bravia Z series or a Regza. Still not sure what size. 42" or a 46" or 47". Im still trying to figure out how much i want to spend. (Well No more than a grand) So just looking for some input on either of these. Ive heard of Audio Problems with these but the Bravia has firmware updates.

Go to Sam's Club and buy a Vizio. I bought a 55" LCD, LED backlit. Less than $1,700. Excellent specs, from the website: "REAL 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio for rich, dark scenes delivering an experience that will blow you away. Rounding this out are features such as full 1080p high definition resolution for crystal clear images, 240Hz Smooth Motion for fluid transitions and SRS audio technologies for amazing sound! "

    Look Here

Sam's has extended warranty program. Their return policy is excellent. Don't buy over the internet, if you have a problem the shipping costs will kill you.

+1 on the Vizio. I bought the 55" XVT Led and the picture is excellent. The 42 or 47 models may fall within your budget.

I picked up an LG 47" LCD last year from BestBuy for $999 - though the exact model number escapes me at the moment.

The PQ on the LG is not as good (IMO) as the Sammy HDTVs I already own, but the price was very tough to beat at the time.

OK, this is close enough to the one I bought
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+47%22+Class+/+1080p+/+60Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/9251481.p?id=1218068505433&skuId=9251481

I know it's only 60hz, but it's also $200 cheaper than it was last year...
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Under a grand and has to be a LCD?

To me thats a no brainer: Sony 46" for $830.

Im a huge Sony fan and everything I have ever bought from them from TV's, computers, video camera, digital cameras, photo printers and anything else I can has always been excellent. I prefer the better picture quality of a plasma otherwise Id have a Sony LCD instead of my Sammy plasma.

After looking, yes the Plasma has better Blacks and a little smoother, but i like the picture overall on a LCD. Im not a huge movie watcher at home. My TV would be geared more towards Live Sports and Discovery HD and the likes.

I feel they both have PROS and CONS but the fact that and LCD has way more lifetime vs the Plasma is a big factor to me

Edit as well as the whole "burn in" with plasma

I own a 120hz Z series Sony 46" and absolutely love it, PQ is phenomenal, and it was easy to get the colors set as I like (thanks to the million posts on AVS...)

I would veer away from some of the "lower series" Sony's, as there were reports of sparklies showing up on the screen, and another issue I can't remember. I chose the Z series, as it looked as good as anything Sony had on the wall at Crutchfield.

Make sure to get the size that fits your room the best, and go with that Z series Sony. You won't be disappointed!

Sorry but the Sony except for the Z series will not cut the mustard. Try to A/B the Sony next to the Samsung / LG/ Toshiba then you will see what I mean. I live 14 hours daily among 50 to 60 TVs ( sorry not at BB ) and that's the truth with the Sony.

Price wise you will get better deal with the Sony s series but I won't touch it.

Burn-in isn't really much of an issue with Plasmas this day and age, compared to how bad it was a few years ago.

Once you've gotten around 400 hours onto your plasma, it becomes nearly impossible to get burn-in during typical use.

Personally speaking, i'm probably leaning towards one of the Samsung LED local-dimming tv's at my local Frys. I'm hoping that during the Superbowl/tax sales the one I want will dip closer to $2000 (it's around $2500 right now).

    Pauly,

If you are absolutely, 100% convinced to go the LCD route, than I'd stick with the Bravia. I will say though, the Regza has improved greatly over the past few years. Still, it's general color accuracy is not up to par with competitive Sony screens.

For what its worth though, Panasonic and to a lesser extent, LG plasma panels will last longer than any LCD on the market. It sounds like someone fed you a lot of BS regarding the lifespan of plasma.s

Im not 100% convinced but 98%..

Ive read all about LCD Plasma wars. Which is better blah blah. Just like EMO fanboi if you have one you love it and will stop at no end to let everyone know. Im going off my eyes and reviews i have read from CNET Google reviews and the likes.

So given the use it will get in my situation. Little Gaming, More Live Sports and Broadcast HD which would be better? PROS and CONS. Im no expert just someone who wants the best bang for buck in overall quality and the damn thing lasting w/o any issues.

For the money the Vizio "VT" series has gotten good reviews and has some nice features. That the TV I'm currently looking at. Dell just had the VT420M on sale for $699 free shipping. I missed it by a day and I'm watching for it to go onsale again.

Cnet had good things to say about it especially since it's really at the lower end of the price scale.

Samsung overall is probably the best as far as picture, but you pay a lot for that, sometime 20-30% more.

I'm in the market as well.

So other than just recommending. Care to give insight over LCD vs Plasma.

Pros Cons on both?? Yes richer blacks, brighter brights etc..

But i want OVERALL. Best bang for buck kinda info. So far im still leaning towards LCD as no one has given me much to change my mind

    Pauly,

I certainly understand where you are coming from. The thing is, there really is no debate/war. The bottom line is this.. unless you intend on placing a TV in a bright room, a good plasma of X value will always be better than a good LCD of the same X value.

It's not about brand, quality control, video processors, and all that stuff.. its more about the topology of each technology. Plasma's don't really have many cons these days, and their strengths are hard to ignore. They can reproduce an image over twice as fast as an LCD. They are capable of rendering true blacks and true whites, whereas regular LCD's cannot, they look better across different sources (do not need to operate at/near a native resolution to look good), and best of all, they are typically a lot cheaper than their LCD counterparts.

Now when you throw in a good "LED" TV into the mix, such as those from Samsung or LG, things get a bit more interesting... but since we aren't taking LED's... there is nothing to question. I just think someone fed you a lot of bad info regarding plasma's.

At the end of the day, if you end up with a Sony or Toshiba LCD, I do hope that you enjoy it. They make good stuff. Oh yeah, and from a reliability standpoint... we are getting into semantics. If you want to get really down and dirty, one could argue that Toshiba and Panasonic have the best reliability track record, mostly due to their heightened level of quality control (they actually make a lot of the parts that go inside these screens, whereas Sony, Samsung, LG, etc.. do not).

    Best of luck!

    Good info. Thanks

So am i to understand that placing a tv of A or B in a bright room i should just go ahead with a LCD? My living room has 2 sliding glass doors within 3 feet where the sun shines in on the left side.
