I would also like to see Plasma-LCD pros and cons. What about consumption? I've heard Plasma's use a lot more electricity.

Thats a PRO of LCD they use less electricity. That one i know :)

That Sir, is your reason for an LCD. Sorry couldn't resist. But seriously it would be. My Panny plasma has the antiglare, while it's great for my TV room which only gets a bit of light, if your blinds/curtains will be open almost all the time, then you don't have a choice but LCD.

As for power consumption, I don't care. I'm not buying a TV cause it'll use less electricity, I'm buying it cause I like the picture.

Your only talking about $2 - $3 more per month on average for a Plasma over a LCD.
Sounds like you have a very bright room so LCD is your best bet.

My plasma is pretty decent in a bright room, and i don't have it on the "KILL" setting, either.

But if it's in a REALLY bright room, the LCD would probably be a good bet.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

    Good info. Thanks

So am i to understand that placing a tv of A or B in a bright room i should just go ahead with a LCD? My living room has 2 sliding glass doors within 3 feet where the sun shines in on the left side.

    Pauly

Think "Glare" and reflection of lights on top of the glass panel. Think "Heat" generated by Plasma over LCD/LED.

With 600hz no dbout the response time of the Plasma wins over the 240kz LCD.

There is no perfect animal created by man. By all mean, give the Samsung LED a chance. The Un46/55b600 (120hz) is not far from your budget especially if you finance it with 36 month no interest. Keep the CC with high interest rate in a safe deposit box.

    Walmart.:o...has a 47" Vizio for 898.00...
I haven't checked the reviews of Visio model though...#SV470M..might be ok.

    also a Sony 46" for 778.00...;)# KDL-46S5100
in the same sales flier for Super Bowl Sunday sales.

The above IS a BRAVIA. Maybe you will buy the next expensive size since there's 222.00 of headroom left.

But after reading what has been sugested, I would have more than enough insite to broaden my choices. The one guy who works around them all day long...That's some advice I would want to have when I decide to buy a new TV.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

And if you look at any stats, please ignore contrast ratio completely. Companies give outlandish values, and measure contrast ratios in different ways....Find somewhere that can set up a TV properly and have a good look at your 2 models.

My primary uses of my Z series Sony are:

1.) Gaming. my PS3 looks incredible on this badboy. No banding, no sparklies, no lagging/ghosting at all. Perfecto.

2.) Blu-ray. Same as above. Just beautiful.

3.) TV. Very rare that I watch tv as I only get over the air channels, but the tuner in this tv is great, as I can pick up about 6 local channels in HD that looks much better than it used to through my cable box...

I like everything about the 120hz Z series, but I'd also have to put a vote in the hat for the LED from Samsung. A friend of mine just got the 46" and some def tech bp's, and I helped him install everything.....WOW, what a nice picture. If could find an excuse to buy a new TV, I'd have a Samsung LED...

LED not in the budget as much as i would like to get one. A grad is already 300 more than what i wanted to spend. I will always be behind on the TV's. I make my final decision tomorrow when i go "Talk" with some Geeks and Sales guys.

Plus my TV stand purchase so thats really 450.00 Over budget, but hey. EFF IT!

    Pauly,
    I have a sony bravia V series KDL-46V5100, and a panasonic tc-p50s1 plasma.
Hands down the plasma has a better picture. Colors so deep put your **** to sleep! Paid $899 for it too.
My dad also has a sony and samsung lcd and a panasonic 42 inch G10. His favorite is the plasma also. Please dont compare the picture in a store because its not set to the right settings, just demo settings.
Bang for the buck the panasonic plasma is king. And my S1 said its life is 100,000 hours, thats more than any lcd offers.
Also the S1 uses alot less electricity than past plasmas.

Tommorow when u go talk to bestbuy guys, ask them what tv's they like better, guarantee they say plasma.

    Bravia over the Toshiba...

But you can get a Tc-P50X1 panny plasma for $699 at best buy. Yeah it's only 720P but will still compete against the sony and toshiba IMHO. This TV has amazing blacks which beats both the Bravia and Toshiba hands down. 50" panny plasma for that price is a freaking steal.

Plasma has a life of 100,000 hrs to half life which means you will get around 22 - 30 years of TV pretty much the same as an LCD.

I am over 7 years with my one Panny Plasma with ZERO problems. No Burn-in no dimming nothing.

Burn in is no longer a concern with plasma as someone all ready stated.

I looked at the Sony KDL-52Z5100 and almost bought it until I got a hold of the Panny TC-50G10. PQ is jaw dropping and playing games or watching sports is so much better then the Z-Series IMHO

I have a huge bay window in my living room where my 50" Panny is and I don't have to many problems with glare.

LED is so over priced right now. It's still LCD technology with LED lighting.

In the end it's what you want and between the two the Sony is the Better TV.

Just remember that bright vivid pq of lcd in a store will not look like that once in your home. Same is said for that dull pq on a plasma at a store. It will really pop in your home.

I wouldnt choose samsung for lcd. I know 2 people who had a problem with capacitors and there tvs wouldnt turn on. Samsung uses cheap parts.
Also My friend just bought one last weekend and it was a buzzer! He returned it and bought a Sony. No problems so far.

grif32, I also have a panasonic 42' in my bedroom, and its 5 years old, never had 1 problem. Love it!

Hey Pauly, sorry for the finance BS advice. Have you look at the Tosh 55zv650u ( 240Hz) ? It can be had for $1500.00. Trust your own eyes. This baby PQ beats the Sony Z series and the Tosh is less expensive than the Sony. If not, downgrade to theSamsung LN52B550 ( 60hz) for a bit less than 1G.

Too bad you are not in the local area, I could have been able to save you some money on the Tv and the TV stand. Good luck.

Samsung picture quality is top notch, but stay away from them. I own them, once proud of them, and paid too much in repairs for them. Settle for something else with better built parts. F!#k Samsung!

+1, that is what I've read/heard about samsung while doing extensive research prior to deciding on a Panasonic plasma. Samsung has more models than all the other manufacturers combined, it seems like.

Anyone buying a new HDTV should check out this aftermarket warranty seller. They have a 5 year warranty for an LCD <$1000.00 for $99.00 and they're Better Business Bureau approved ! It's gonna be $189.00 for my $1300.00 plasma.:(

I have both the Sony Bravia 42" LCDs and the Panny 54" plasma. In a bright room the Sony will be a great performer. If the blinds are shut then the Panny Plasma performs flawlessly and throws a gorgeous image. More depth and definitely more pop with the plasma. I have both displays connected to HD media. If you can control the light then do the plasma, if you prefer to keep the room bright then LCD as mentioned.

I wonder who builds all the screens for and who use their assembly lines for Mits, Sony, Toshiba? Guess who ? (A) Samsung or ( B) LG ? Ask manufacture reps, not the salesman, they know. :D

I honestly don't care what you think or say about anything, and I'll trust the info that I receive from established authorities on this subject. There is more to an HDTV than just the display panel/screen. Samsung has a terrible track record regarding durability and repair frequency. STFU !

Right back at you. Who cares what I think or you think? I do not need any self validation. So I do not tell the other people to shut up . The OP make his own decision based on his own money and his own eyes.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what falls into the "bright room" category...If I have the overhead lights on, is that too bright? If the blinds are closed but ambient light from the skylight is coming in, is that too bright?

Is there an easy way to figure out how much is too much?

    Is no fun.

Ive been looking for 2 weeks, looking at local ads, going to BB and CompUSA, Walmart, Target looking online reading feedback, Cnet reviews etc...

So i think i have it Narrowed down to either a Bravia Z series or a Regza. Still not sure what size. 42" or a 46" or 47". Im still trying to figure out how much i want to spend. (Well No more than a grand) So just looking for some input on either of these. Ive heard of Audio Problems with these but the Bravia has firmware updates.

    Discuss

    Pauly

Why not look into the XBR series for Bravia? But if it's only these two choice I'd pick Sony but like everyone else had said I have to agree...a Panny Plasma will kick both these LCD's arses....no low end or any mid-range LCD can compete with the PQ of a Plasma..and if you were to properly "break-in" the colors for the new plasma and tweak it a little bit after not even most HIGH end LCDs that are TWICE the price and MORE can compare..

I picked up a 42" S1 Panny for $630 final price and while I was also looking at LCDs the 40" XBR9 240HZ was 1k-$1100 and even the old XBR7 120HZ at crutchfield WAS $900...a cheaper Sony or other brand mid range 120Hz 40" LCD would of cost about $750-$800+ What I paid is like a fraction of higher quality LCDS while it gives me a better quality picture...seems illogical for me to spend more on an LCD after thinking about that. Lastly, for your purposes of sports...a new Plasma has NO MOTION BLUR at ALL but in many 120Hz LCDs you will still see motion blur and even some 240Hz
