New stand

I just had to buy a new stand for my components and TV. Soon I will buy a flat screen TV and do away with the old school TV. The TV is the last thing on my mind
I know Sal/Laz has one and the President told me Joe has one too. I am not sure if Joe is my pal Joey but I hope so
It should be here in a few days and I hope its not a pain in the **** to assemble. Looks simple enough.
Do I need to fill the posts with lead? Any other suggestions? My wife will defiantly notice it because she is going to have to dust it  Just joking, I clean everything regarding my system.

I have the same one also in black. I have not been able to get the caps off to fill them. I tried but I was afraid I was going to damage something if I tried any harder to get the caps off.
I do like the rack and it has a nice clean look, not to mention the modular flexibility of the system.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
super nice rack! Love the look. Might I be so bold to ask the brand, and how much a similar rack would run me?2 Channel

Do they make racks just for mono block amps?

Thanks guys.
It will be nice to see more of my components for a change. The stand is far more revealing so "she" will notice more but I am not buying anything not noticeable for awhile, ie: the speakers I just bought. -
Drew & Scott to get the end caps off, take a long flat blade screw driver with some girth and place through the hole where the spike go until it touches the endcaps. Then with a rubber mallet gently tap the screw driver around the perimeter of the end cap and it will pop off without any damage. Next feel inside the end cap and you will feel rubber plugs which plug up the crossbars. Remove all the rubber plugs and put them away for a rainy day. Replace the end caps by placing it back on top and gently tap them down with the rubber mallet until they are well seated.
Next step, get about six bags of #9 bird shot, place a funnel in the hole where the spikes go and start pouring the shot into the racks. Make sure you raise and lower the rack while doing this to get the shot in every hollow post and crossbar evenly. Make sure to leave some room where the spike hole is and then screw the spikes in tightly.
It takes a little patience and getting use to but once you've done the first tier the rest just zips by.
Hope this helps. -

I forgot to mention that you must take all five endcaps off and remove the rubber plugs so that the crossbeams are exposed and open so the shot goes into all the crossbeams. -
I found shot to be prohibitively expensive and opted for play sand instead.
Not to mention there are health concerns with the lead dust:(
Actually, I have never heard of filling equipment stands with shot/sand, only speaker stands... -
The lead has more mass. If you are worried about the dust, ok. I doubt your sand is sterilized...

Are you kidding me??
After all the bird/buck shot I have released from my shotguns thats the least of my worries.
You gotta be from California:D -

LMAO
Maybe I will use New Jersey sand its gotta be more sterile than lead :( -
Don't want to mess up your thread and take it off the subject but since it's about VTI are these amp racks any good? At the price it seems like a great deal.

Drew, you can also use reptile sand as it won't absorb airborne moisture and become moldy but it is a real pain in the arse to work with and is very messy. I would definitely stay away from playground sand as it has a propensity to absorb moisture especially on the NJ humid days.
Go with the shot, it really deadens the ring, resonance and airborne vibrations as well as foot falls. -

They are good for the price. Just make sure you fill them with either lead shot or reptile sand and use the method I wrote above to make sure the crossbeams get filled too. -
I have used the VTI BL404 with one additionalshelf for a two years. Great openess and versitility. Drains excess resonance/vibration very well for this price point. I have my TT on the top shelf (5th level) with no problems not (floor is wood on a slab)integrated w/DAC module Gryphon Diablo 300

Thanks for the follow up and recommendation.
Will this do the job? How many bags do you think will do the trick?

Six bags should cover it. However I would look to a local gun shop in that you may get it cheaper per bag plus with that kind of weight, shipping costs are going to be high. Plus if you get it from a local gun shop and find you need more you can just take a ride over. If you've found that you don't need all six bags, they'll take any full bag back for a refund. -
Thanks Joe

Gun shops are rare in this crime ridden communist state I live in but thanks for the suggestion. -

Hey Doc
Did you fill the posts? If so what with? If not, why not?? -
I'm thinking of doing this to my VTI rack thanks to Joe's instructions. How may pounds of shot approx? I see you said six bags but how many pounds? 6-25lb bags?-Kevin

Yes sir! Atleast to start out. When you've completed the task you will be bowled over by the difference and improvement in SQ having all your components isolated from the airborne vibrations as well as the isolation from each other.
Might I also suggest getting getting Isol-Pads to go under your components for further isolation. You can get them from Quest for Sound; http://www.questforsound.com/accessories/acc_sqIsolPads.htm
Steven Monte is the owner. If you tell him you are a member of this forum and drop my name he will give you a great discount.
I use one under each foot of each component and they really work wonders. -
Thanks Joe

I've received no email Drew. You may want to consider looking up some gun shops on the PA side of the river. With gas and tolls I think you will still save money vs the shipping from MO. -
