If you wanna talk about Favre's pick, how about the fact that Sidney Rice just planted on his route when Favre threw it his way? On a pass like that, the receiver is supposed to run up and grab it, not plant and wait for it to get to him. I learned that as a receiver in high school football, so I'm sure Rice knew it. It was both of their faults.

No, junior. You and I squared off on the subject of your raging boner for Favre once before. It turns out you're just a kid living in Florida. I'm saying I know things you don't.

Favre threw the ball with 10-15 yards of open field in front of him. The throw was the cardinal sin of throws for QBs. It was ALL Favres fault, you moron.

"cardinal sin", eh? Couldn't think of your own way to put it so you just quote what the announcers say? Listen, Favre made an error, there is no arguing that. But if you ever played football, you should know that when you run a turnaround route of any type where you end up facing the QB, you are supposed to run toward the ball when it is thrown, not plant and wait for for exactly that reason: it gives defenders time to jump the route. Not to mention Favre has been throwing across his body his whole career. Part of what makes him unique is making plays, making throws in ways you just aren't supposed to be able to.

I have no doubt in my mind he will retire and stay that way. Especially considering they said Favre knew what he was going to do in the offseason, regardless of the outcome of this game. He's had enough.

I am not and have never been a Farve fan. I am a Vikings fan, and though I am dissapointed by the outcome, I also had a feeling it would happen exactly the way it did this afternoon when I saw Farve on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Being on their cover before a big game is the kiss of death.

I'll say it again and hopefully it will sink in this time, dummy -- he had 10-15 yards of open field in front of him and was already in field goal range. You run and let the kicker win/lose the game.

Favre had to take a game they had in hand into his own hands and throws his signature interception and his team ends up losing. Vintage Favre.

It's not my fault you can't get over the fact that your hero isn't as great as you say he is.

Favre played well under the circumstances.
They didn't lose it on that throw. He was pretty banged up and it isn't an easy run. The gaps close quick. He is a quarterback not a running back.
This dumping on Favre is completely idiotic. The man is a football hero.

I've won all sorts of things, lost stuff too. Not sure what that has to do with loser Favre doing everything in his power to toss away (no pun intended) another Super Bowl appearance, though.

They had the game in hand at that point. They were in field goal range. If he didn't have a throw he could have tossed it out of bounds, but he had something better -- 10-15 yards of open field to run and give his kicker a better chance at making the field goal well within his range.

He may have been a hero, but that ended when he got too big for his own britches and too big for the team.

Boo hoo, Favre loses and I am as happy as a pig in fresh ****. :D

The Saints go out as winners and so do Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings!

This statment is absurd. The Vikings, as they did against the Steelers, beat themselves with five turnovers! Even thought they outplayed their opponent and put up rediculous yardage numbers, they LOST! Were it not for the turnovers the score would have been ugly in the Vikings favor.

The Saints are not as strong as they appeared, but they are opportunistic as hell. If the Colts can keep the ball in their hands and not put it on the turf, they will be the Super Bowl Champs

They were not in field goal range..the penalty pushed them out of it. I hardly call a 56-57 yard kick "field goal range". He saw an opportunity to make it a very easy kick for Longwell, as opposed to a very difficult one. He took a chance, and he lost. Favre has always taken chances, and more likely than not, he has won. Just not this time. And I don't have to get over anything; the record books speak for themselves. And dummy? It was miraculous he could even play at all under the circumstances. I've seen Favre make that sort of pass many times. He is an awesome quarterback. The Gordie Howe of football.

There were other bad plays in the game when they were closer and came away with no points. There was an earlier fumble that the Saints turned into a score. Favre made it a great game. My hat is off to him and the Vikings as I cheer the Saints.

Well said. The game would have never come to the last couple minutes if the Vikes would have held on to the ball. Too many fumbles, and it was hard to overcome. AP, Harvin and Berrian all played a role in making it such a close game at the end with their fumbles. Without those butterfingers, this game could have been decided by the 4 minute mark of the 4th.

Not to mention, Favre got hit something like 18 times this game. 18 freaking times. he was getting walloped, and a big part of that was the o-lines fault. A lot of missed 1 on 1 assignments up front. He even got hurt and laid on the trainers table. But he came out and fought hard till the end. Anyone who doesn't at least give him credit for how hard he played is just irrational.

They were at the New Orleans 38 yard line. 38 + 10 + 7 = 55 yards and in a dome. Longwell's career long is 55 yards. They were in his range. If Favre runs for even half of the yards he had in front of him it's a 45-48 yard field goal. A gimme? Hardly, but it's not an interception either.

You keep talking about the throw (completely moronic as it was ;) ) and you ignore the fact he had 10-15 yards of open field to run and slide. Maybe even get another penalty if the Saint's dared touch his holiness.

People are so easy to forget that Favre was the major force in getting the Vikings to this NFC Championship Game. Losing it or not, he is still one of the best quarterbacks of this league even if he's over 40. Those Vikings 'd rather lose in this "semi-final" than not making the playoffs with either Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson at the helm.
It's just a game, some time you lose, some time you win. Peyton Manning lost plenty, too, not just Favre.
And, of course, those Cheese heads are cursing at him because he beat them badly :D

No worries... there's always next year. I heard Fran Tarkenton is available and looking to lace them up again.

He did an interview a few days ago stating that the Vikings were still HIS team and even if Farve won the Super Bowl in purple that Farve would still be just a Packer.

Talk about EGO's... I have always thought highly of Tarkenton but the last I checked, they ceased being his team in 1978.

Child? What's up with the continuous youth comments? You think you're better than me because you are older? Or are you one of those old guys who hates the youth because you're jealous of it? It must be something, because quite frankly, being young has little to do with this conversation and there is no need to continuously attempt to use it in a belittling way. And trust me, I am far from a child; I've gone through a lot to get to where I stand today and I am very proud of it.

Anyways, he did NOT have anywhere near 15 yards to run, not on a bad foot at 40 years old. And ok, so they were at his CAREER LONG. Yup, that sounds like the "easy" field goal you're talking about. I'd do what I can to make it an easier kick if I had the chance, too. Hindsight is 20/20; you wouldn't be bashing the decision if Rice had caught it. You are just like everyone else.

There is no hero that everyone likes, that much is obvious. And I don't need you to like him; I don't care what your opinion on anything is, it's inconsequential. He has accomplished much more than most NFL players have and is a guaranteed first ballot Hall Of Famer. Like I said, the record books, and his legacy, will speak for themselves.

Tarkenton declared in the beginning of the season that he hoped Favre failed miserably, and expected him to do so. Doesn't want to be outshined in a purple uniform? Condemning your ex teams QB, and thus your ex team as a whole, to fail is simply ridiculous and uncalled for. Not that it matters, because in the end, Favre had a hell of a year and Tarkenton was wrong.

Agreed... Once I read that and watched his interview, I came to the conclusion that he is one of the biggest **** out there. I am glad he never got a Super Bowl ring.

Farve manned up and admitted he should never have thrown that ball and that he should have run for the yardage and slid out of bounds. With the way the Saints were playing, they would most certainly given another 15 to the Vikings for the late hit on Farve out of bounds.;) Field goal range would have been assured and the rest would be history.
