Can you point me to info on this subject? Equipment operating temps?

Whats to point to ? You'll fry up your gear over time. You need some ventilation or a fan or both when sticking gear inside a cabinet. They also need space inbetween and around them for circulation. There is no such thing as proper operating temps as different gear operates at different temps, and depending on how much you push the system. Use some common sense, give your gear some air flow,or buy a stand that will allow it.HT SYSTEM-

By "the right direction" and "Whats to point to?" I mean what quiet, long lasting fans have been used. What CFS, thermally controlled, noise level, bearing material, etc.
I have a lot of knowledge about many things that you may not know about. It's called sharing information and experience.Receiver Sony STR HD800

Didn't mean to sound condemning, appologies if you took it that way. If you want to know about what brands of fans to use for that specific purpose, others will chime in. I only question your decision of putting audio gear in a non vented cabinet, then scratching your head as to why you can fry an egg in there is all.HT SYSTEM-

I know one thing though if all your gear is to hot too touch you have problems.
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
I have heard that some people use laptop cooling pads. Place it under/over the equipment. It is flat and easy to use.

Yeah, I agree. I am as shocked as anyone how I overlooked this important detail in, the excitement, engrossing research of an entirely new home theater system.
Heat was never an issue for 12 years with the old system, which lived in an entirely open piece of furniture.
I left it to my dear wife to choose the "furniture" and that's as far as my brain went on that.
Thank you all for responding.

I had the same thing, wifey buys airtight cabinet.
I did remove the back of it before I put the equipment in it.
Would you simply be able to remove the back of the cabinet?:cool:Parasound C1, T3, HCA-3500, HCA-2205A, P/DD1550, Pioneer DV-79avi, Oppo BDP-83, WD Media Server W/HDD,

Purchase a 12 volt computer case fan (or two) and plug them into the trigger switch on your AVR or pre-amp....
(mount the case fans so ventalation is provided in your cabinet. (slot at bottom - with fans blowing out on top or 1 blowing in at the bottom (over your AVR maybe) and one blowing out at the top of your cabinet.)

I'm going to try using 2 PC slot fans, resting flat on top of the equipment and exhausting out. Already have one of these fans and a 110volt AC to 12v DC transformer.
I will crack open the front cabinet doors (have to open door for inserting DVD disc anyway) and turn on these fans.
I remember using this set up for my PC venting when I had one in an enclosed cabinet. Will report on how they work out.Receiver Sony STR HD800

I had the same issue. I have a large amp in a confined space (cabinet). I removed the back of the cabinet for air circulation and I tried a small fan that I purchased from the hardware store. That fan made too much noise.
Then I saw the Parasound Zbreeze component fan on sale at Audio Advisor. I bought it and it arrived last Thursday. I actually purchased it from Audio Advisor through Amazon. That way I did not have to pay for shipping. This product so far works excellent. It even has a 12 trigger that allows it to power on and off.
It is a bit pricey for a fan, but it is exactly what I needed.

That Parasound Zbreeze is very nice looking and 3 x 92mm fans with 25 CFM : Wow!
I would buy it right now if it weren't for the price.
If aesthetics were essential then the price surely be worth it.
Dis you mount it in the top of the AV equipment

rcpolk,
I have the Zbreese sitting right on top of my amp (over the vents). It cools extremely well.
The 12 volt trigger allows the Zbreeeze to power on and off when one powers their amp/pre amp on and off. Therefore, there is no need to turn the fan on and off manually.
I am by no means whatsoever an audiophile. I am simply a fan of ultra high quality sounding music. Therefore, I have just enough knowledge to hook up and operate my system.
However, I have found that there are many friendly folks who frequent this forum who have a solid understanding of electronics. I am sure someone will chime in and help you.
I would guess your receiver or amp/pre amp needs to have 12 volt trigger outlet to utilize this option. Otherwise, you will have to turn the Zbreeze on and off manually via the power switch on the front.

I bought a couple of PC cooling fans and connected them to a DC adapter. They keep my Adcom nice and cool. They can be heard somewhat when the system is off but when the HT is in full swing, you can't hear them unless you're superman.____________________________________________________________

Unless someone here has the exact same equipment in the exact same cabinet as yours, we can't be of much practical help with your inquiry.
When I was considering the purchase of a pair of hot-running monoblock power amps and wanted to place them in my current audio equipment cabinet, I sent pictures of my current cabinet and equipment configuration to the amp's manufacturer and asked if their amps would work without overheating in my cabinet. My audio cabinet had metal mesh doors, metal mesh side panels and was open in the back. I was told that, yes, the amps could work in my cabinet, but not without the installation of four cooling fans (one above each amp's heat sinks).
The manufacturer said the ideal placement for the amps under consideration was on amp stands next to the speakers. I did not like this for aesthetic reasons.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

Go to the coolerguys.com web site. Get some of the cabinet cooling fans with thermal temp for less than $100.00 to get it over with. -
On the second thought, during the game tomorrow please throw inside the cabinet a bag of popcorn if it does pop then you really really need to call the Coolerguys for help.

This is what I have done to keep cabinet cool, even with the doors closed since the doors have small spaces around their perimeter.
The fans are left running all the sime. When equiptment is running I just leave the doors open about an inch or two. A thermometer placed on top of the hottest area reads 90F all the time.
Can't hear them running but you need to add strips of Velcro (the wooly side) to their undersides so that the vibration will not transmit to the equipment. This is incredibly effective in making the fans quiet.
Notice that I don't have the adapter running at full 12 volts.
